cancelling an order for customer

I have a customer that placed an order 4 days ago and payment was pending, now the order finally showed up but they had already made other orders instead of it. I told them they can cancel it through their order history, but i wonder if i cancel it for them will my account be negatively impacted? They requested me to cancel it through the messaging system.

The proper way is for them to cancel through the orders page now. If the message they sent you has a subject of "Order Cancellation Request" or similar, it may not count against you if you cancel the order, but I am not sure. That is how buyers used to have to cancel, but then they changed how buyers cancel, and I'm just not sure if the old messaging way with that subject still works or not (if it will even let buyers choose that subject any more). If the message doesn't have the cancellation request subject, though, it will definitely count against you if you cancel it.
