Hi Amazon Seller Community,
I’m reaching out because I’ve run into an issue with my OL-212 Universal/International Travel Adapter listing on Amazon Canada.
My product, an ungrounded international travel adapter, has been incorrectly flagged as a grounding adapter, even though it is fundamentally different and does not violate Amazon's policy.
There seems to be some misunderstanding, and I haven’t been able to get any useful help from Amazon so far.
What Happened:
Product Type Confusion: My product is an international travel adapter (for use with non-grounded two-prong plugs), not a grounding adapter. It’s designed for overseas use, so it has no grounding mechanism and doesn’t bypass any ground pins.
Compliance with Standards: I’ve already provided the UL/CSA 62368-1 certification, which is what Amazon Seller Support said was needed before listing my product. This standard is recognized in both the U.S. and Canada for safety, and my product meets it.
The Problem:
Automated Responses: Even after submitting all the necessary documentation, I keep getting generic, automated responses asking for SCC-accredited certification, which doesn’t apply here. According to Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), my product is exempt from needing SCC certification because it’s solely intended for overseas use.
According to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and the Ontario Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) Code (based on the 2021 CEC), there’s an exemption for equipment designed specifically for use outside Ontario. The relevant exemption states:
"(d) Equipment designed for use outside Ontario. You don’t need approval for electrical equipment intended solely for use outside Ontario, because no applicable Canadian standard or certification program applies. An example would be travel adapter plugs for using electrical equipment overseas."
Confusing Policy Enforcement: What’s frustrating is that similar products (even ones from the same supplier) are still being sold on Amazon Canada using the same certifications. It feels like unequal enforcement of the policy, and I’m stuck with no clear resolution.
What I’ve Already Shared:
My Request:
Fair Review: I kindly request that Amazon review the product listing properly with a clear understanding of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and harmonized UL standards.
Clarification: I would appreciate clarification on why SCC accreditation is being requested for a product that already complies with recognized UL standards.
Removal of Listing Suspension: Given that my product is fully compliant with Canadian safety standards, I respectfully ask for the removal of the suspension on my listing.
I’ve spent a lot of time trying to get this resolved, but the lack of clear communication from Amazon has made it really difficult. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
