Selling to Canada

I am a US based seller and am considering listing some items to sell on the Canada marketplace. What is the best service to use for shipping? My concern is that my tracking percentage for the Canadian marketplace would take a hit if I use the wronf service.

Thanks for the help

You need to take a service that takes care of the import duties and paying the Canadian GST. Canada is not easy.

When a Canadian buyer purchases from the Canadian marketplace they must not be faced with any sort of import duties/fees.

This means you may not use USPS unless the value falls under the collection threshold. You must use a carrier that allows you to prepay any fees.

Hello @Seller_BTwe3TJpuapgf,

Thank you for posting your concerns with trying to adhere to our policies in Canada.

I am a US based seller and am considering listing some items to sell on the Canada marketplace. What is the best service to use for shipping? My concern is that my tracking percentage for the Canadian marketplace would take a hit if I use the wronf service.

You need to take a service that takes care of the import duties and paying the Canadian GST. Canada is not easy.

As mentioned by @Seller_rI7BZIczK8iAC and @Seller_Hi7wbO2Kbo6bl mentioned you will need to ensure that you have a valid carrier service that prevents buyers from being impacted by delays or any additional fees due to import or exportation of the products and orders.

Here is the link to our valid tracking rate help page, for more specific information on Canada requirements, you will need to switch the seller central region to CA to see more specific requirements for that region.

Here's a few sections from our Canada help page:

VTR policy requirements

Beginning June 30, 2022, all non-FBA sellers in the Amazon.ca store must maintain a VTR equal to or greater than 95% at a product category level.

A VTR below 95% in a product category will result in:

  • Restrictions on your ability to sell seller-fulfilled items within that category or categories, without affecting your seller-fulfilled offers in product categories that meet the VTR requirements or your FBA offers.
  • Loss of eligibility to participate in premium shipping and guaranteed delivery. For additional information, go to Enroll in Two-Day Shipping.

If any of your listings are suspended, you can submit a plan of action and apply for reinstatement to op-pso-vtr-appeals@amazon.ca . If your plan of action is approved, your seller-fulfilled listings in the affected product category will be restored.

You had inquired what would happen if you did not meet these requirements, it may result in the removal or eligibility to sell in the affected category. As noted in the help page, you can in these situations explain the situation by emailing the appropriate teams with an explanation of why the tracking was not meeting our expectations, how you corrected the issue, and what you have in place to ensure compliance moving forward. Additionally, here's our section on how to maintain a healthy valid tracking rate:

How to maintain a healthy VTR

  • Purchase shipping labels through Amazon’s Buy Shipping services.
  • Choose carriers from the drop-down menu that are integrated with Amazon, listed below. These carriers provide real-time tracking status to Amazon.
  • Verify that the carrier name, shipping service and tracking ID are entered correctly and belong to the same carrier.
  • Confirm, and update if necessary, the tracking information before the carrier delivers the package. If the tracking information is confirmed or updated after the package is delivered, that means the customer was not able to track the order. This is not useful to the customer and it will impact your VTR metric.
  • For packages shipped from China with a value and shipping charge equal to or above CAD 6.00, ship and confirm the package with a carrier that offers fully tracked shipping options.
  • Tracking IDs need to have at least one carrier scan to be valid.

We also include a list of integrated carriers on this page to help make sure you're selecting the correct carrier.

The forums community and I are here to support you. Please let us know how we can help you from this point forward.
