How do you calculate your profits
View post

Only you can calculate your profits. But I can describe how I calculate the payouts from Amazon. On your main dashboard you see the "Total Balance". In the "payments" you see under "Transaction View" all amounts coming in and going out and how this Balance is built. Twice a month Amazon sends you a "payout" (you will be informed by email) and at this moment the "Total Balance" is reduced by this amount.

Hi @Seller_NSXoN02lUqEz9,

Building on what @Seller_rI7BZIczK8iAC explained about the Total Balance and Transaction View, let me add some information from the help pages that might be useful:

According to https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G200989470, there are a few reasons why numbers might appear different across reports:

  • Business Reports include cancelled orders, while Payments reports don't
  • Payments reports include Amazon fees, while Business Reports don't
  • Only shipped orders appear in Payments reports

Settlement Reports are the most reliable source for tracking your payouts. While it takes some initial setup, downloading these reports and analyzing them in Excel or Google Sheets (using pivot tables and filters) can give you a clear picture of all the factors affecting your bottom line.

Kind regards, Michael

"How do yosu calculate your profits per month."

Both @Seller_rI7BZIczK8iACand @Seller_i6S8knzW6zU6Z have provided information on the payouts.

YOU are responsible for the 'profit' determination.

You don't say if you are FBA or FBM but if you are FBM just do this --

You get an order notification from Amazon that shows what your 'earnings' are. That is WRONG. All it is is the cash flow NOT 'earnings'.

You need to deduct all your costs from that number.

Here is a recent one for a sale --

Quantity: 1

Price: $106.99

Tax: $10.97

Amazon fees: -$15.56

Marketplace Facilitator Tax: -$10.97

Your earnings: $91.43

From the 91.43 I need to deduct the cost of the product, the shipping cost, the cost of packing and shipping materials, and so on.

Only THEN do you know if you made a 'profit' or not.

I check items every so often to see if costs have gone up, etc., but for a given category and price range I know approximately how much I make on every sale.

Estimates are that 1/3 of all sellers on Amazon are LOSING MONEY and simply are paying Amazon to drain their bank accounts.
