I mixed up the quantities of two items that were shipped to Amazon warehouse

Hi fellow sellers

After 10 years of selling with FBA, I today made my first ever big mistake that I only found it out few hours after the package was shipped out. I mixed up the quantities of two items, I shipped 41 units for item A, 27 units for item B but I put the shipment record as 27 units for item A, 41 units for item B.

Has anyone made similar mistake before? Can you share with me what were the consequences? Will I lose some inventory? or in worst case will my account get suspended?

Thanks for your advices

Hello @Seller_tgVvKIPsnwPar

Christine here from Amazon Forums.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. First, please don't panic - shipping discrepancies do occur, and being proactive about reporting them (as you're doing) is the right approach.

Here's what you should do:

Open a case with Seller Support. Report the discrepancy right away, clearly explaining:

  • The shipment ID
  • The correct quantities for each item
  • When the shipment was sent
  • When you discovered the error

Once the shipment arrives at our fulfillment center, our receiving team will count the actual units received. The system will flag the discrepancy between the declared and actual quantities.

Regarding your specific concerns:

Account Suspension: This type of honest mistake, especially from a seller with 10 years of good standing, will not lead to account suspension.

Inventory Loss: As long as you've reported the issue and the physical products are properly labeled, your inventory should be reconciled correctly during receiving.

Best Practices Moving Forward:

  • Double-check quantities before confirming shipments
  • Take photos of your shipment contents before sealing boxes
  • Keep detailed records of what you actually shipped

If you notice any inventory discrepancies after receiving is complete, please contact Seller Support immediately for reconciliation.

Hope you have a great day!
