Buyer asking to return an order 4.5 months after receving it
This is a new one for us. Advice please.
Customer received the order on 9-12-24 and today asked to return the item for a full refund -- 4 and half months after receiving it. This is the first we've heard from them. They claim both" Different from what I ordered: Request a refund" and "The product does not work as described"
If I reply that this is well outside the return window, can they file and A-z Claim? If they file an A-Z I will lose, correct? Am I in a no-win situation?
Any help on how to handle this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Simply state to the buyer that
"Amazon offers a 30-day window once the product receives to request a refund, and yours expired on (one month after tracking shows delivery date)".
It is usually a scammer testing you out.
Now with that said, there is more to the scam that has not happened yet. If the buyer calls customer service and makes up lies about you saying how awful you were, CS will refund the buyer on the spot. in flll, from your account.
Now you have to file an appeal to get your money back. That one sentence sent to the buyer is what you base your appeal on.

respond...."unfortunately the return policy for this item expired 102 days ago, it is no longer eligible for refund or replacement" I make sure to tell them how many days its been so they maybe realize how ridiculous they sound.
after 90 days they wont be able to file A to Z or leave feedback. Even when they file under the 90 day mark ive had good luck with amazon denying claims since they never attempted to return the item.

You can politely cite the Amazon 30 day return policy however if they choose to go the A-Z route which it sounds like they may, you will most likely lose. From our experience over the years we have never won these types of cases simply because Amazon philosophy is "DO AS I SAY, NOT AS I DO". Only cons and fraudsters try and return stuff 4 months after purchase.
We lost A-Z on items purchased 6 - 7 months ago several times and lost a significant amount of money. The A-Z team typical response for these is that the manufacturers offer a 1-year warranty and therefore since we are selling their product that rule also applies to us as the reseller even though that is completely illegal for Amazon to force. Absurd platform and only getting worst, best of luck to all who decide to waste time and money trying to make a living here.

this has happened to us a few times where the buyer suggested that the product isn't been tested/marked properly etc etc. I took my stand and stated that returns are only accepted within 30 days and she started to threaten me with bad review, chargeback, reporting to Amazon and whatnot. My response was firm
Thankfully nothing of that sort happened

Be strong. Follow Amazon policy. They are trying to blackmail you.

Hello @Seller_3YZA4mLe68TFP,
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.
Please share the Order ID associated with this case. This will allow me to have a better understanding of the product/category. Regardless, 4 months seems odd. I also see that you replied to the buyer/customer which is a good approach.
Thanks,
Joey
