$110 Order Shipped Before Strike, Buyer Won A-Z Claim—Is This Normal? 😩

Hey everyone!

I’m feeling super frustrated and confused right now. I shipped a $110 order using Canada Post well before the strike started. The tracking shows it was shipped and is still in transit—nothing says it's "lost" or anything like that.

The buyer, however, started an A-to-Z claim because it’s late due to the strike, and Amazon gave him a full refund from my account! 😭 Now, they’ll get the item for free? Like, seriously?!

Why doesn’t Amazon just ask the buyer to wait for the package or request a prepaid return label from me if they receive it late? How is this fair to sellers who did everything right but are stuck dealing with delays outside their control?

Also, once the strike ends, will I even be able to file a claim with Canada Post to cover the loss, or am I just out of luck on this?

For what it’s worth, I stopped using Canada Post many days before the strike officially began because I didn’t want to deal with this exact scenario. I was cautious! So please don’t tell me I should’ve avoided them—I was very cautious!

Any advice or insights would mean the world to me right now.

Thanks so much!

I don't know if you can make use of it, but Canada Post does allow some shippers to redirect parcels ($13 plus shipping cost to new address).

Why doesn’t Amazon just ask the buyer to wait for the package or request a prepaid return label from me if they receive it late?

If this is not a rhetorical question, it should be pointed out that Amazon does not work for you. Hence, should not be expected to "inform" the buyer of anything, other than refund him/her since the item was not received by the due date. Besides, for how long would Amazon ask the buyer to wait, in this scenario?? How would that be fair to a buyer?

Moreover, why would a buyer request a Return label for an item not received?

-----------------------------------

How is this fair to sellers who did everything right but are stuck dealing with delays outside their control?

Again, how is this fair to a buyer who did everything right?

----------------------------------

Your best bet might be to contact the buyer, apologize for the non-delivery/lateness of the order and ask that it be returned to you (at your cost). With some luck, you could have an understanding and cooperative buyer. Good luck.

Amazon's is now a Gangsta's paradise !

I'm getting my account hit by waves of customers using A-to-Z claims to get free stuff and get paid back for their purchase. Everybody knows that orders are stuck in the Canada Post's system, except Amazon and the opportunist customers abusing this seller platform. Be prepared to lose hundred or thousand of dollars and lose your reputation !

Could you possibly file a package redirection with Canada post. I am currently doing this for any customers who want a refund for their late shipments. I am refunding them in hopes that they will contact me for any items they do receive so I can have the items returned to me.

This is very normal on Amazon. If you sell here you will experience constant losses to theft and endless claims. You have to figure all the theft into your margins. It's around 3% - 5% theft right now depending on how busy your month is.

Insights or advice is do your best to not let selling on Amazon affect you mental health, but this is not easy. You will suffer many losses and when these thieves claim the product did not arrive Amazon will punish you and threaten to deactivate your account. It is not easy to know that Amazon does nothing to track repeat thieves and criminal activity and you have to smile and say sorry to every criminal who steals from you. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

I completely understand your frustration—it’s been such a tough time for sellers during this Canada Post strike, and I’m right there with you. Honestly, I think many of us are in the same boat right now.

Despite taking precautions, Canada Post delays have hit my orders too, and I’ve ended up with three A-to-Z claims in my account, all directly due to this strike. It’s devastating how much my ODR (Order Defect Rate) has been impacted.

I even contacted Canada Post to try to retrieve some delayed packages, including items that haven’t cleared customs yet, but they’re refusing to cooperate. On top of that, we’re scrambling to find alternative shipping carriers, but delays persist, and customers understandably start claims when orders are late. However, the current system feels so unfair:

Customers are refunded through A-to-Z but will still receive the item when it eventually arrives.

Amazon doesn’t seem to consider the situation properly during appeals.

To make matters worse, many customers don’t understand the delays are out of our control, and Amazon doesn’t seem to account for this during dispute reviews. It feels like we’re being punished for something completely beyond our reach.

I’d like to encourage all sellers impacted by this strike to raise awareness here and across other forums. If enough of us voice our concerns, perhaps Amazon will revisit their appeal process and show leniency, especially when there’s documented evidence of shipping delays caused by the Canada Post strike.

Thank you to everyone sharing your experiences. Let’s support each other through this incredibly frustrating time!

The way that Amazon has treated sellers throughout this ordeal has been absolutely despicable. They withdrew money from me over a customer claiming to have not received an order that I shipped 2 days before the strike. Now they will be receiving the item for free and there is nothing I can do about it. Would it not make more sense for them to grant more leeway time to the seller? I am very close to shutting down my account at this point.
