Unauthorized refund by Amazon on order from 7 months ago.

Amazon's return policy states the following:

"While most sellers offer a returns policy equivalent to Amazon's, some seller returns policies may vary. If the seller's listing is eligible for Amazon Prime, it will be subject to the same return policies as items fulfilled by Amazon.ca that are outlined on this page. For more information about returning to third-party sellers, see Returns to Third-Party Sellers."

...implying that sellers may maintain independent return policies for non-Prime orders.

Our return policy states the following:

"Please note that while we provide complimentary shipping at the point of purchase, we do not cover return shipping charges. This policy ensures we can continue to provide quality products at reasonable prices to our customers like you".

Despite this, the Amazon A-to-Z team issued the customer an excessive refund for return shipping on an order from October 2024. They did not contact us before processing the refund, which is clearly a violation of both policies referenced above.

ORD: 702-8953400-3135461

I am requesting the MODs for reimbursement on this unauthorized refund.

Regarding your return policy, it must be as good as or better than Amazon's. A buyer can still use a seller faulted reasons and get their refund from Amazon. You stating you will not pay for return shipping does not supersede Amazon's policy. So depending what reason the buyer chose for return, you may have to pay. So this would not be reversed due to your policy being different.

The age of the order is another matter altogether. Good luck.

I'd love to hear amazon's explanation here. I had an item returned after 11 months as "defective". But only 1 out of 4 bought. Should I expect them to process a return for each of the remaining 3 over the next 3 years.

If anything this should have been a warranty or courtesy replacement. No I was not notified, just noticed it in list of item returns (FBA by the way).

Ironically when I sent back an item I bought from Amazon that was not even close to what I ordered (shoulda just kept it as worth more than what I bought.) They initially never refunded my money a few weeks after they received it. I did have to contact customer service to get my money but wow.
