Poor sales performance...!!! VERY VERY VERY SAD
Since last week, there has been a sudden drop in sales, but the advertising costs have not decreased. In fact, sales are lower compared to the same period last year. What has happened on Amazon? Has anyone encountered this kind of problem?

The retail sales business is based on annual trends, and this month is a slower due to graduations and summer planning. Of course, it all depends on what you sell that makes the difference.
You seem to be armed with this knowledge, so why haven't you cut back on your advertising? Remember, online advertising is paid for from your unearned profit. Unless you have an income so substantial that you hold earned profits in an advertising budget, you will diminish the profits to be earned.

in our industry sales are down 20 to 40 percent this year. Amazon is by far our worst performer though. I’m guessing Amazon is giving themselves the buy box far more often than usual.

Why are you wasting money on ads? Do you sell graduation gifts, summer items, did you have anything for Father's day? If not then you should not be advertising your unneeded items!

Its the Juneteenth sales slump, since the holiday fell on Wend it thru off our delivery times and we lost the buy box on many listings due to no deliveries on Wend. and the extended transit times customers saw.

Obviously, it's based on what you are selling. If you were selling party supply, graduation type gifts and Father's day gifts and summer type sundries and you said sales were down, then I would be concerned.
However, the first 3 weeks of June every year since I can remember have been slow for my business and then gradually pick back up. We just came off a really strong May so I wasn't expecting it to last forever.
It's good to track your sales each month and see how holidays, life events such as graduations and the weather affect your sales then plan accordingly. One trend that affects my business and not others is that about one week before a holiday...things slow up and then return to normal. In June, we had Father's day, Juneteenth and end of the school year which is much like a holiday for students. On top of all this, Independence Day is just around the corner. Any life changing event affects buying habits whether it's a joyous celebration or a funeral. Weather is another huge one. If it's sunny and beautiful outside, more people are doing outdoor things and not sitting in front of a computer compared to if it's raining or cold outside and more people are inside and may be apt to spending more time online shopping.
It's also smart to track the economy. Inflation is up and interest rates are up and many people are struggling to make ends meet with less disposable income. This could mean an opportunity if you sell certain goods or could mean sales will be slower than historical trends regarding other goods.
Knowing your product's market is extremely important.

I have been on this platform since 2005 and I have never seen it so bad. Mine is definitely on a sprinkler system, i will only sell items a few hours a day, the rest of the day , it's like i am invisible. Jan to May i am only 12% off from last year, but June is trending 50% off from last year. Quarterly taxes just wiped me out. Crunch time for the rest of the summer. Glad I work alone.
