Incomplete Addresses Provided by Amazon / Buyer

I suspect that I am not the only one facing this issue.

Let me start by stating that I am a one-person seller and not a big business and I sell on Amazon.ca. Over the past month I have received 3 claims from buyers who stated that they did not receive their parcels.

In each of these cases, when I looked further into the details of their orders I see that the address supplied to me by Amazon was incomplete. Just a name, city, province and postal code. No street address or PO Box etc. So this is an incomplete/bad address.

Amazon's responses to my queries are the typical "canned" responses that do not address the issue and nor to do they take any responsibility for not verifying the customer address to at least ensure it is complete before the buyer is able to proceed with their order (surely their system can see that it does not match the address on their payment method). Amazon. Amazon claims it simply produces the address that the buyer supplies which, if true should not be the seller's responsibility. Amazon takes zero accountability. They tell me to contact the shipper who will allegedly reimburse me. Clearly Amazon knows absolutely nothing about Canada Post or Canada in general. I am certainly not going to pay upwards of $16.00 or more to have this sent back to me when the item sold was valued at less than that in most of these sales.

Amazon in one case has already refunded the customer and counted it against my rating. They denied my appeal (as they always do not matter what claiming no evidence but it is clear by looking at the order that the address in all cases are incomplete).

Moving forward I will obviously be more careful when reviewing the shipping address supplied with each order but Amazon's lack of accountability is despicable.

If you are looking at these orders a month later, the street address or box no. has been removed by Amazon, leaving the info you have listed as showing. When you filled the order, it was likely correct, if not, you cancel it and choose "incomplete address" as your reason. Or you can trying to contact the buyer via Messaging, but that rarely gets a response in my experience.

Sadly, Canada Post will not reimburse you for a lost package if the recipient won't respond to Canada Post's request for information from them. I just lost one of these because the buyer would not respond.

Hello @Seller_ZJFtS9XKeAS4Z

Thank you for contacting Amazon Forums! And thanks to @Seller_kNAboD6kRgVt7for your contribution to this forum!

I understand your situation with these orders that were not delivered to the customers and affected your performance. In this case, the address provided when you get an order is the same address customers have in their accounts, therefore, this is not changed at the moment of the order creation. If there is an issue with the address, most likely is that the address was incomplete at the moment the customer created their account.

Now, I would suggest to always double check the customers address before shipping your products, just to make sure it is deliverable. Also, if you experience a similar situation in which the parcel is going to an incomplete address, it is good to be in communication with the buyer, this way they can provide more details for the delivery courier.

Finally, a good option that you can take advantage of is Buy Shipping services. With Amazon's Buy Shipping services, you can buy shipping labels individually or in bulk, while automating shipment confirmation and valid tracking in Seller Central. Buy Shipping ensures that your products are delivered to your customers using a trusted network of shipping carriers.
