FBM - Does shipping settings automation acccount for available inventory across locations?

We are looking into shipping settings automation and would like to understand better how it works in with multi-location inventory.

example:

If we had 2 warehouses/locations set up in Seller Central:

  • One in Denver, CO
  • One in Newark, NJ

And we have a product ASIN, say "ASIN 'X'", with the following quantity

ASIN "X":

  • Quantity in Denver, CO: 0
  • Quantity in Newark, NJ: 30

Now, an Amazon customer with a shipping address in Cheyenne, WY has 20 of ASIN X in their cart.

When presented the shipping transit time estimate, will the customer get the estimate based on Denver to Cheyanne or on Newark to Cheyanne?

I'd expect the estimate to be the latter, since Denver would have no inventory to ship from, even though Denver is closer distance-wise.

Hi @Seller_eBXYzS6HmlUt1, your expectation is correct! Check out Location based Shipping Settings for more information.

Do you use Shipping Settings Automation? If so, the Promised Delivery Date will be calculated using:

  • The buyer’s location
  • The location or fulfillment centre closest to the buyer
  • Up-to-date data for delivery times associated with the sellers preferred carriers
  • Location-specific order cut off time and weekday operations settings.
