Why have the cost of return labels almost doubled lately?
Has anyone else noticed the cost of return labels provided by Amazon has nearly doubled lately? Just got charged $16.79 for a return label for a simple pair of shoes (3lb box from TX to MN). These labels used to be $6-$8. This is one of many examples, most return labels are now well over $10, many are $12-$16. Is there some setting I missed or something? This is for FBM.

We are experiencing the same issue. Last month, a label that cost us $6.62 for a 2 pound label (still overpriced) now costs $18.49 for the SAME ASIN. The price increase happened right after Christmas, it seems that Amazon is trying to capitalize on the flood of returns. I started a case for this issue and they tried to tell me that it was due to a fuel surcharge, yet there are no additional shipping charges on the payments page for the order. We are being charged $17-25 for return labels on 2-3 pound packages.

Hello @Seller_Zg32YDziNv5GJ
Thank you for posting your inquiry to the Forums.
When you purchase shipping services, the carrier charges are based on the information you provide for the package. Similarly, for returns, we provide customers with prepaid return shipping labels on your behalf through Amazon Buy Shipping and the carrier charges based on the information provided in the label. Carriers may charge or credit you after the package is shipped in the form of Carrier adjustments. This help page provides additional information on carrier shipping correction charges for your reference. Please feel free to provide an update to this thread and you can reference any case ID opened with Support that you'd like for me to look into.

How many of we not know that Amazon, like any other business, gets discounted charges from USPS and UPS?
The bigger the business volume, the larger the discount.

If you pay attention, for buyer returns the label might be $6-$8, but then UPS will make an adjustment a month later adding $15-$25 to that. Likely because of box dimensions. Randomly UPS will decide the package is 40 lb even though its not and there is nothing you can do about it. I've tried for clearly bogus adjustments UPS makes that Amazon passes on to you. I've had $68 returns because UPS decides a 5 lb box is 40 lb and adjusts you for it.
So even on buyer returns that are buyer faulted and the return shipping should be withheld, you still end up paying for it and taking a loss.

Amazon, working with the delivery services, is intentionally gouging sellers.
Why? Because we are helpless to stop them.

I have seen this BIG time. Every single return label is coming in at double or more what it used to be. And I am still getting hit on the back end for adjustments. I had one return label cost me $48. When I shipped it out with UPS for $7.62 on my UPS account. I created a case and they told me I have to talk to UPS. UPS won't let me do anything about it because I am not the account holder. Even if they did, the credit just goes back to the account holder, I would never see that adjustment.
@SEAmod@Quincy_AmazonThere has got to be a better answer here. If Amazon is trying to tell me they are getting charged substantially more than I am for return labels, why would I not have the option to use my own labels for returns? I don't want Amazon to provide a return label if it is going to cost me 2 to 3 times more than it would cost me to do it myself.

Good thing you are selling FBM. Hopefully, the buyer will play a scam on you and you can file a Safe-t Clain and get reimbursed for the amount Amazon deducted from your account.

We have noticed the same thing and have been making Safe-T claims for every return that we were overcharged for return shipping. You can calculate what you should be charged for return shipping using the information at this amazon link https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G202103400?mons_sel_mkid=amzn1.mp.o.ATVPDKIKX0DER&mons_sel_mcid=amzn1.merchant.o.A3EUXOIIMAK4VW&mons_sel_persist=true
