Requests from customers for refunds where orders are held up with Canada Post strike
How are merchants dealing with customer requests for refunds on orders that are enroute but stuck due to the Canada Post strike? How is Amazon handling it if they submit an A-z claim? Is it going to be an automatic refund by Amazon? Eventually, they'll get the shipment that is on the way. Will we be out the product and the funds?

Without tracking it is a refund.
With tracking, it will depend on how late is the package. I suspect AZ will not handle it any differently than how they already do during normal times.

Buy the shipping directly from Amazon. If there is a strike or if the mail it is held up, any AZ claim will not be counted against you and Amazon will cover all refunds as long as you had ship your item within the allowable timeframe.

A-Z will be handing out refunds left and right. Refunds for everybody and they keep the product. They have cultivated a customer base that expects things for free and to arrive in 2 days even if it's FBM. This place is a nightmare for small business and small sellers, I have moved half my products to Ebay. We are not protected here.

You to use FBA to avoid all of these issues. I sell low dollar items and once I switched to FBA all these problems went away. Trust me you wish you did it sooner.

Got my answer on AZ - Amazon just arbitrarily refunded orders that were stuck in the Canada Post shipping strike. So we're out the money and the product. Sigh

we have the parcel redirected back to us, and refund the buyer.

I put my storefront in vacation mode a week or so before the strike was supposed to start, just to play it safe. I have kept it this way the whole strike, so have had absolutely no issues. I am amazed there are sellers who have kept their storefronts open during the strike, and are waiting until after the strike to ship orders.

Our advice is to STOP SELLING to customers in Canada until the strike is over - and then wait for the postal backlog in Canada to be cleared before you start selling to Canada again other wise you will be hit with claims for orders not received because they are so late which Amazon will grant as always.
We sent out orders BEFORE we realised Canada Post was on strike which has led to A to Z claims which - AS ALWAYS - have been granted by Amazon and counted against our defect rate so we are now getting messages that our account could be deactivated!
We are so sick to death of the way Amazon operates AGAINST the seller that we have tried on 4 occassions to get out account closed as we have had enough - but Amazon is blocking the request so far.
