customer return was damaged by customer
I received a book back to day by a customer who held the book for 29 days before initiating a return because she found a cheaper copy. My copy was only $10.99 and was a very fine copy. The customer was automatically reimbursed before I received the copy back (today, 6/28). The very fine copy was damaged with bent covers and pages. It also was just tossed loose in the return box. I have been unable to have the customer take responsibility and I am unable find out how to talk with Amazon about after going round in circles for hours. I am very angry at both the customer and Amazon for the fraud of the former and the obfuscation of information by the latter. Am considered canceling my inventory of around $250,000 worth of fine and rare books on Amazon.

file a safe t claim.
keep appealing until they make it right. Bots will deny your claim the first 4 or 5 times.
If you have a picture of the book before you sent it, definitely put it in the photo with the returned book you got back so the agent can see a side-by-side comparison.
This one sounds like a tough one though, because you got the same product back (supposedly--you sure it wasn't a switcheroo?). I did win one though where the buyer purchased a new/sealed CD and returned it opened (obvious Buy/Burn/Return). It took about 10 appeals but I finally got fairly close to the restocking fee I should have been allowed to charge had the buyer not been refunded at first scan.
I much prefer when scammers return something totally unrelated to the product they received...like a toy mouse cat toy in place of the hard drive I shipped....MUCH easier to win those.
