Seeking Help: Verification Challenges for Alberta Sellers & Business Registration Clarification
Hello Amazon Community,
I’m currently stuck with my account verification on Amazon.ca and wanted to share some information I found regarding business registration for sellers in Alberta. I’m hoping someone with experience from Alberta can kindly check if my understanding is correct.
I have already opened a case with Amazon Seller Support and explained my situation, but my verification keeps getting rejected. They keep asking me to provide:
A signed and dated Registration Extract document
Certificate of incorporation / Certificat de constitution / Certificate of existence
From what I’ve researched:
If you operate as a sole proprietor using your full legal name (not a trade or business name), Alberta does not require you to register a business name or provide a business registration document.
For small sellers making less than $30,000 annually, GST registration is not mandatory (please correct me if I’m wrong).
Many of the documents Amazon requests, like “Registration Extracts” or “Master Business Licenses,” do not apply to sole proprietors operating under their own legal name in Alberta.
CRA business numbers alone are usually not enough, but since there is no formal business registration in this case, it seems difficult to provide what Amazon requests.
Because of this, I am stuck with my Amazon seller account verification and unable to move forward.
I understand Amazon needs to comply with regulations, but I think it would be helpful if the verification guidelines for Alberta sellers included these specifics to avoid confusion.
If anyone from Alberta or with similar experience could confirm or clarify this for me, I would be very grateful. Also, if Amazon staff could kindly consider updating the documentation or guidance for Alberta sellers, that would be wonderful.
Thank you so much for your time and help!

Following up on your post. For your specific situation, here are a few suggestions:
•Try explaining your situation in writing to Amazon Seller Support again, clearly stating that you're a sole proprietor in Alberta operating under your legal name.
•You could provide alternative documentation, such as:
- An affidavit stating your business structure and operations
- Your personal tax returns showing business income
- Any municipal licenses or permits you may have
•Consider reaching out to Alberta's Business Link service for guidance. They might be able to provide a letter explaining the local regulations that you could submit to Amazon.
•As a last resort, you might consider registering a trade name (even if it's just your own name) to obtain documentation, though this shouldn't be necessary according to Alberta's regulations.
If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our support channel.
Regards,
