Amazon created standed inventory with wrong SKU

I recently shipped 1000 units of our product to Amazon and 45 went missing during transfer between Amazon's warehouses. I asked Amazon to look into it, and they were able to recover 32 of the units. But Amazon then inexplicably changed the SKU for those 32 units (they created a new SKU that was just the shipment ID with .missing1 afterwards). They also incorrectly made the FNSKU the same as the product's ASIN. Just a lot of errors made.

Unsurprisingly, these errors caused the 32 units to become stranded inventory. And because the SKU is incorrect, the only option available to me is to "create a new listing" for this new SKU. Seller support has been incredibly unhelpful, suggesting over and over that I just create a new SKU.

I just want the correct SKU assigned to these units so that they can be added to the inventory of my existing listing - the listing I shipped these units to fill the inventory of in the first place.

Can someone from Amazon please help? Seller support doesn't seem to understand or is unwilling acknowledge the problem created by Amazon. They also suggested removing the 32 units and then shipping them back, but said Amazon would not cover the cost, even though Amazon is responsible for this issue!

When we've had this issue, we just do a removal order and then inspect the items. Unfortunately for us, most of the items Amazon finds are old and unsellable (we sell expiration dated products). But occasionally an item comes back just fine. We relist it either FBM or FBA.

Good Evening @Seller_nBbwQTZ5NsRcM,

I wanted to check in with you to see if you still required assistance regarding your stranded inventory issue? I see that you reached out to Selling Partner Support back on June 6th, 2024 on CASE ID ending in 5151 and they shared the following feedback:

"In order to resolve the issue you need to create a new listing, for that you can visit Fix Stranded Inventory page and click on "Create a new listing" tab. For more information with regards to Stranded inventory issues, please refer to the help page."

Please provide us with an update if this information helped resolve the issue or if you still need assistance. If the issue is already resolved, please disregard this message and have a wonderful week.

Sincerely, Cooper_Amazon

We are having this same issue. It seems every time Amazon finds inventory that there was a reimbursement for they are creating a new SKU when they find it. They are asking us to create a duplicate listing or removal order. We created a new listing the first time it happened, we figured we'd sell the inventory and close the listing but the inventory Qty for the SKU Amazon created keeps increasing now. Anyone else having this issue recently? I feel like this is going to keep happening and we're going to have to pay for removals or have 3 or 4 listings for the same item under different .missing1 SKU's Amazon is creating.
