GS1 UPC code a must have?
I have been selling on Amazon since 2012 and don't recall ever reading or seeing anything insisting we use GS1 UPC codes. Our Company has had the UPC codes on our products for the past 22 years with never an issue. Now Amazon has taken down several of our products and telling us we have to use only GS1 codes! Please can someone tell me when this became an issue?

I don't know exactly when it happened because I can't find any way to search the Amazon News/Announcements but it's been quite some time ago.

Because GS1 saw a way to make money and Amazon is helping them. We have the same exact issue and as usual you just have to comply because no one at amazon cares. There is no legitimate reason. GS1 just saw an opportunity to make money and reached out to amazon and they both agreed to rob us.

We have the same issue. Amazon used to "recommend" using GS1 UPCs but not require them. You could either use a non GS1 UPC or get a UPC Exemption. It was usually easier just to use non GS1 UPCs so we did that. Unfortunately, about 7 years ago Amazon started requiring new listings use GS1 UPCs. Now, they are starting to remove listings that used non GS1 UPCs, even if the listings were created when the rule was not in place. I have had minimal success by getting a UPC exemption and having the issue escalated. @Glenn_Amazon was the representative that helped me, but I have reached out with more affected ASINs and have not been able to get assistance.
