Custom Alibaba/Made in China products
Hello, I have searched quite a bit for the answer to this question and wasn't able to find any -- if a discussion already exists, please feel free to point me to it.
I am developing my Amazon business and am dedicated to doing it the right way. I have spent a lot of time on Seller University and talking to Amazon directly. I do not wish to infringe on anyone else's brand or product and wish to comply by Amazon's policies. I am not looking to "get rich quick."
My question is, I am in communication with several Chinese suppliers (Alibaba and Made-In-China, open to others) about creating products in three ways and am wanting to be sure these would all be legitimate and accepted sales on Amazon:
1. Finding a NON-branded, generic product from Alibaba already on Amazon, without other restrictions (no baby, food, cosmetics, hazmat, etc), finding the exact matching ASIN on Amazon, exact same photos, etc., and selling the exact same product with no modifications or customization (understandably may be tough to make a profit if competing with other sellers on exact same product and listing)
2. Using a product that Alibaba/Made in China already sells (NOT a branded product, something generic such as a room humidifier) making some small tweaks (such as color, style, and other small elements), and adding my own logo, then buying in bulk this customized product to sell and creating a new Amazon listing for it that would be unique from (but possibly similar to) other listings
3. Completely creating a 100% brand new, private label product from scratch utilizing again, Alibaba/Made in China (including filing for my own U.S. trademarks). While I would prefer a U.S. supplier, I have spent months in talks with U.S. and Canadian manufacturers and the prices for what I want to create are so high (easily 1000%-2000% higher than China) I had to eliminate that option.
I can't see where #3 would be a problem to sell on Amazon, as this would be 100% my own completely unique product with a trademark - UNLESS Amazon would not take Alibaba invoices even if we had a manufacturing contract and other records of communication.
In addition, would there be any issues with #1 or #2? I would imagine #1 is the most risky in case they are not manufacturing the product themselves or have ripped it off from somewhere despite the product being generic and unbranded. I have tried googling and searching this at length, but I don't trust most of the "gurus" or YouTube experts out there.
I hope that makes sense and would truly appreciate any guidance.

Finding a NON-branded, generic product......, finding the exact matching ASIN on Amazon, exact same photos, etc., and selling the exact same product with no modifications or customization (understandably may be tough to make a profit if competing with other sellers on exact same product and listing)
Look up Amazon's wonderful, idiotic new "generic Products Policy"

AFTER reading the policy above...Be careful to do your research. launching any new product on Amazon successfully will cost you thousands. Make sure you consider ALL expenses, included the needed advertising cost of around 30-40%.
Importing anything electronic from China is risky, due to often bad wiring, cables falling out, plugs burning hot. Make sure you understand all testing required and check into insurance requirements.
Spending a few hours in the forum will teach you more than Amazon seller university and make you understand what it actually all means...

In scenario #3, you are considered the manufacturer, since it is your brand and customized for you.
When creating the listing you will enter your company name as the manufacturer and your brand -which may or may not be you company name- as the product brand.
Amazon will not ask you for invoices. But you still have to be sure you do not infringe on patents.
Also, the prices you see are for the product only. You have to figure in shipping which most likely cost about the same as the product itself, in essence doubling the cost.
Then there may be import or customs fees.
