Shipping Costs more than Item Revenue? HELP!

I have an order and the only shipping option costs more than the product itself. My product is 10.98 but the only shipping option is $14! Can someone please advise here? I turned off automated handling time and changed my handling time to 1 day. How can I work this out?

you have to update you shipping setting sso so they can reflect what your are using to to ship for example if you use first class select that and it will gie you that option but if you push it on the handling time then will be an issue for your expected delivery time

You say that you turned off the automated handling time. That's good.

Now, how about your shipping templates -- have you allowed automation there?

Remember, you can always buy shipping elsewhere and just enter tracking on Amazon to confirm just so long as you meet the delivery deadline. PirateShip is a good Plan B, or Endicia, Stamps, etc.

Feel your pain here, as it hits us sometime. Hopefully the suggestions for changing your shipping work. Often times for us, it is A/FPO. You can turn those off, but I like to be able to supply them, as so often it is military abroad, and the least I can do is my due diligence to try and make it work. About half the time, we can ship through Stamps.com or our FedEx account and hit the target date and price we need.

The others, if they are not profitable, we send a note apologizing that we do not have Amazon options that we can hit their required receive by date and cancel the order. We have really good metrics, so it doesn't hurt us.

I sell books almost exclusively. Several years ago I could price paperbacks at $2.99 and still make a slight profit on my sales. Those days are long gone with the high commission rate and the large increase in USPS shipping. Now my cheapest pb are $4.95 and I barely clear $1 on those. I have started moving my lower cost books to eBay. eBay annoys me at times but I cannot afford to lose money on my lower priced books and eBay provides a cheaper option.

Start by double checking your measurements and weight for shipping.

Then write down what they are. Next, change them until the shipping updates to a new amount. Now change them back and see if it corrects or changes.

I get this all the time. My postage cost shows $8.45. I change the weight and dimensions then change it back to the original number and magically the shipping resets to $4.15- $4.45.

IDK why it does it, but this usually works.

buy shipping at ship station or something else.

This has happened in the past which is why all my shipping is set at 2 days. The system sometimes forces you to choose something like UPS for an item that weighs 4 ounces if you have it set at 1 day. Normally over weekends it happens more frequently. I still ship same or next day, but, since I made the change to 2 days it hasn't happened since.

Other reason could be that the person's mailing address it not USPS verified. In which case you HAVE to use another shipping option, such as, Ship station etc.

This is nothing new and Amazon refuses to fix it, so you have to adapt, sorry.

There used to be many people that would answer questions on this forum, that had a multitude for information (that is how I know this one).

Sadly they were forced away by Forums changes....

It's an address that USPS doesn't serve. I had one today somewhere in the middle of Kentucky, no USPS option available, UPS is $11 when the item was only $12. I tried to use stamps.com, but was told that address isn't available. I cancelled the order, "delivery address unavailable" or something. She ordered again. I emailed her, saying sorry your address doesn't pop up to use USPS, had to cancel. Not sure how it will hurt my metrics yet.
