How should I choose my product?

I'm a newbie seller. When I choose products to sell, I am often troubled by the restricted and sensitive attributes of the products, and I often look for compliance references. But I still can't solve my troubles. I would like to ask the seniors if you have any good suggestions to quickly understand whether a product can be sold on Amazon. What qualifications are required?

Hi @Seller_XgymgH1tai4K0,

Choosing the right product can definitely be a bit challenging, but there are some resources that can help you navigate the process.

First off, Amazon's help pages are a great starting point. For restricted products, you might want to take a look at this overview: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G200164330

Some products and categories require special approval, and you can find more information on that here: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G200333160

If you're considering a specific product, try searching for help pages that address its particular restrictions or compliance needs. For example, check out this page focused on infant walkers: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/GGYR8DS2R8Q7R2SF

When looking at manufacturers, it's crucial to work with those who are well-informed about product safety and compliance to help ensure a smooth process.

Also, the Amazon Service Provider Network (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G201367250) is a valuable resource, offering support in areas like compliance and intellectual property.

Best, Michael

Make sure you fully understand what you're REALLY getting into. Watch all of the university videos. If you don't have your own brand or it's not registered, DON'T waste your time or money. You'll seriously regret it. Amazon is not the place for amateurs! You WILL lose your shirt!

I would never start on amazon these days unless you owned the product/brand or had an exclusive contract to represent a brand owner.

I can get into way more, but there is too much difficulty to be one of 100's or 1000's on products and not enough upside. That business model is being eliminated by Amazon and profits are way down.

If you dont have a way to represent good products, create something. The barrier to entry in product creation is really low with sourcing, 3d printing and contract manufacturing.

OWN your own future, dont rely on coattails!

It is a little more involved that asking that question. A better question is how to make a livable profit from what you sell online, and that is up to you before you come to the site.

Did you ever go into a retail store that just sold one product? No... Why?... That is because there is no real profit is selling one item. Remember you start with one product, invest the profits into one more, then invest those profits into 4, and so on.,

Profit is the life blood of your business, so never take your eyes off of it, or you will make none. Amazon by Jeff Bezos design, is set up to take as much of a seller profit as it can get, simply by distracting the seller's eyes off their desired profit.

1. All products sold on Amazon have 4 parts that need to always have attention paid to them.

- The cost per product paid at the wholesale level

- The shipping cost for each individual product sold to be delivered to every address in the USA

- The commission that Amazon will take per each individual sale

- Your desired profit to keep and pay the overheats costs.

The first 3 are fixed costs and it i easy to know the, before you begin shopping for any product. The fourth one is how you create your asking price. The fourth one is what Amazon is after, by selling you advertising, FBA, and other addons Amazon says can help your sales. Remember, all these fees are deducted from your unearned profit whether or not the product sells or not.

2. So, what to sell and where to find it? Successful sellers shop where retail stores shop, where Amazon shops, and I shop. That will be at the ASD wholesale show in Las Vegas the 2nd whole week of March 2025. It only costs showing your local retailers license to gain entrance. Look it up online, it was right in front of you all along. Thousands of manufacturers will display millions of different products. Every one of them will scan your badge just to get you as a potential customer. If you do not buy, you will be on their wholesale mailing list for a year, If you do buy, the minimum order amount is $100. The vendors attending the show are vetted by Neilson and will offer the type of invoice Amazon requires.

If you attend using those 4 issues in #1 above in the front of your mind, you will have no problem selecting profitable items to sell.

__________________________________________________________________

Now with all of that said, in some categories, Amazon requires advance approval to sell in. But while you wait you will have no problem listing the product on Ebay to get your feet wet.
