GST tax break

Does anyone know if Amazon will apply the GST tax break from DEC 14 to Feb 15.

I know it's not impacting all products but.

I likely missed any communivations they would have sent about this.

It's not even guaranteed to go through parliament yet. Still needs to be voted on and ratified.

But considering Amazon can't even fix a simple tracking glitch issue with Purolator that has been ongoing in the Canadian marketplace since April, I highly doubt they have the programmers to be able to figure this out for the tax break if it actually goes through.

Not likely you missed any communcations, Amazon rarely does, communicate that is. Postal strike now almost three weeks old, crickets from Amazon about it.

Can you imagine the mess they will make of it, collecting and remitting GST on behalf of sellers?? Doesn't bear thinking about.

Got this email last night;

The Government of Canada has announced temporary relief from Goods and Services Tax and Harmonized Sales Tax (GST/HST) for certain products that are sold between December 14, 2024, and February 15, 2025. Eligible products include holiday essentials such as children’s clothing, toys, video game consoles and board games.

Action required by December 14:

Check if your products are eligible for GST/HST relief on the Canada Revenue Agency website.

Review product tax codes for eligible products and update them, if necessary.

If you sell children’s toys and games, video game consoles, controllers, and games, puzzles, audiobooks or artificial Christmas trees, we’ll generate new tax codes by December 11, 2024, so you can manually update product tax codes for eligible products by December 14.

For all other product types that qualify for relief, we’ll apply 0% GST/HST automatically. We recommend that you check that you’ve used appropriate product tax codes for each of your products so that 0% GST/HST is applied automatically only to eligible items.

If you don’t update your tax product codes for eligible products by December 14, you may be required to reimburse the GST/HST that was charged incorrectly to buyers. We recommend that you contact your tax adviser to understand the impact on your business.

Email was sent regarding this, Its our responsibility to change the tax settings on the products. So visit the CRA website on the link amazon sent you its not the best of course because the CRA tends not to make it simple for anyone anytime and its vague on what is tax free and not (I guess another way for them to confuse businesses in its attempt to collect you for taxes you did not charge and to fine you for taxes you did charge), Do what we did contact them directly record the call and get the employees info on that recording

For those wonder how to change, just click your SKU and edit listing, under offer secion , there is a dropdownlist where you can change the tax code but I have no clue what are the new ones for the tax relief
