Listing Generic
I am researching dropshippers and when I put the product description in the search bar when adding a product, two things happen. Either 6 listing with different names but the same picture come up, or nothing comes up. From what I am reading, I can list brandless product, I just have to list them as generic. Is this correct? Does anyone do this and make money? I have found several products that do not come up at all. Can I create a new listing under Generic?

Also if the SKU is listed on CJ Droppshipping.com is that the same SKU I enter when listing a product? If it is, and nothing comes up when I search branded or not, am I allowed to sell this? Are these considered unbranded if there is not a "brand" listed in the description?

Good Evening @Seller_b7cCl0mhjDLC3,
I wanted to share some information around best practices when it comes to sourcing products to sell on Amazon.
Drop shipping has some very strict rules and can quickly lead to account suspension. Below are a few help pages I'd recommend you to review:
- Drop shipping Overview
- Drop Shipping Policy
- Guidelines to source products to sell on Amazon
- Invoice requirements for when you apply to sell
These guidelines will also very depending on what category you would like to sell in. For certain products, brands, categories, and sub-categories, we require sellers to obtain approval before listing products. The approval process may include document requests, performance checks, and other qualifications. To learn more about that process click here.
In regards to your question about generic products:
Per the Amazon Brand name Policy: What is a non-branded/generic product?
When a product is non-branded, it means the product does not belong to any brand. In these cases, you must use the value Generic in the brand attribute to indicate the product is unaffiliated with a brand. Non-branded products do not have a common name, logo, or other name that labels its products or packaging.
If a product does not have a product identifier such as a Global Trade Item Number (GTIN) or a Universal Product Code (UPC), you must request and receive approval from Amazon to list generic products in the desired country and product category. For more information on getting approval to list products without an identifier, go to How to list products that do not have a Product ID. You must request this approval for each country and product category in which you would like to list generic products without a product identifier.
Anyone can list against a product unless the product is generic: "If you create a new product with the brand name "generic" or its local translation, other sellers won’t be able to make product detail page changes or add offers."
If you create your product as generic, you cannot update the brand later. Brand string changes from "generic" to branded, or branded to "generic" are not allowed to protect the integrity of the product per the Amazon Generic Product policy.
Hope all the information above helps in your decision making process when it comes to sourcing, drop shipping and listing generic products. I'd also recommend you check out Seller University that way you can avoid unnecessary fees, confusion about how to add a product and be aware of penalties that may occur on your Selling Account if policies are broken.
Additionally, if you are not a part of the New Seller Community, I would highly suggest joining and reviewing the content in that group as well.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding the information provided above. May the sales be with you and have a great rest of your week.
Cheers, Cooper_Amazon
