Try updating in your buyer account first, sometimes that works. You may have to give it a bit of time to update. Or try adding as a new card rather than updating the old.

As booknut7 states above -- make changes first on the buyer side. Whether you can edit for new date or just replace the card -- do it first on the buying side. The credit card interface is user friendly on the buyer side.
It most definitely is not user friendly on the seller side.
