What is the proper way to be reimbursed return shipping on buyer's remorse

Buyer changed his mind, returned item unopened. I want to refund him less original shipping and return shipping. There is no option to do anything other than 100% refund or <=50% refund. Also, all options for partial refunds are not relevant.

I tried to do a SAFE-T claim but can't because I haven't been debited yet. If I refund first, as per SAFE-T claim policy, I can't file a SAFE-T claim. If I do nothing, buyer will file and win an A-to-Z claim and get everything, including original shipping, and I'll take an ODR strike.

Seller support is no help which everyone here knows is no surprise.

Under amount to refund (items) turn it from 1 to 0, then below you can put in "additional refunds" by exact amount.

Please note that something here is off. Do you have your settings set to free returns? Are your return fees in your return policies? Did the buyer open a return request or did you issue a label after they contacted you?

If I'm not mistaken if the item is in original condition you are not able to charge return shipping, that's why it doesn't give you the option to do so. Also it depends on the "reason" they marked as to why they are returning.

You go to the section where it says additional refund and refund him here. Do not refund him in the upper sections.

At least this is the only way I have been able to do it.

I have a Pro-Merchant account--I always have BUT hope to downgrade in about 2 years. I know the rules are different based on the type account you have.

You are correct, IF you give the buyer a refund you wave your right if to file a SAFE-T claim. IF you give the buyer a partial refund they retain their right to file an atoz &/or leave you negative feedback if they are not happy.

I DO NOT REFUND BUYERS. This is amazon's return policy that they shoved down my throat, I have zero say so in this. Once amazon has refunded the buyer I will when appropriate file a SAFE-T & hope that it lands in the hands of an amazon rep that knows/follows amazon's policies, if it gets rejected I appeal it twice, at that point I move on. IF a buyer is not happy with the refund my response is "this is between you & amazon, I have no control or voice in this".

On any return where it could be considered my fault or I don't feel a SAFE-T would be a automatic win I reach out to the buyer, offer them a moderate partial refund & stress "save you the trouble of returning it". I recently gave a buyer a $15. refund on a $20. book that I feel was described correctly but they were not happy with. I had to give them $5. on product & $10 on the "addition refund". The limit on "addition refund" is $20., you can refund up to 50% of the product value.

I send everything "free shipping". I am not aware of a way I can get the outbound shipping refunded, if you know how please let me know, I assume I just have to eat that on any return. In the event the buyer is honest (which some are) & they use a reason like "no longer needed" or "bought by mistake" amazon usually deducts the return shipping, if not SAFE-T time.

I ship everything cheapest way possible, I am not interested in fighting with a buyer over $4. or $5., when an item is returned to me "undeliverable as addressed" I reach out to the buyer & offer to re-send at no charge once I get an address correction OR give a full refund..

I've had this problem, too. Amazon should stop micromanaging things. The restrictions either cheat the seller or the buyer.

Why don't they trust us?
