Amazon generating only UPS Prepaid Return Labels instead of USPS previously generated
Since 1/20/2024 Amazon has ben generating UPS Ground Prepaid Return Labels for all returns instead of USPS Ground Advantage even though the customers' orders are shipped with USPS Ground Advantage using Amazon Buy Shipping. These UPS labels are nearly 3 times the cost of USPS Ground Advantage and often the return label costs more than the item being returned. This leads to no refund for the customer as well as us having to paying the difference in cost of return label and price of item being returned after applying the return label cost for Buyer faulted returns. Before 1/20/2024 all return labels were USPS return labels.
I've attached an image of a current return we haven't received back yet as well as an image of the original USPS Ground Advantage label that was purchased.
Anyone have any suggestions or can Amazon Mods help? We have not opened a case as of yet.

Usually, a UPS label is created when either it doesn't know the weight of the product or it is over a pound. The weight that is used for this determination is not the outbound shipping, but what is on the listing. Go and check what the listed package weight is on the affected ASINs.

Every other platform charges you the cheapest option available or your preferred delivery for return shipping.
Here, you get charged whatever delivery service pays the best in someone else's pocket.
All the subjects that talk about this "return label", return label "adjustment" or "other" charge, are being investigated. They will give us an "update" from the dept. handling this and then the thread suddenly gets locked so no one can post or ask questions.
They charged us $12 for the return of a book from Alabama (three hours drive away from us) 0.something ounces - not a pound.
The cost of the book was $6.5. The label issued was UPS

Hello @Seller_uuiUJi7rf0fpY and @Seller_eJgJ4Pj657ua0
Can you please order or case IDs so I can investigate further?
@Seller_f230iEOxANw9R I responded to your questions in your other thread. Please note that for the return label generated in the return you gave, the item showed a weight above one pound.

Did you find a solution? I am having the same issue.
Hello @Seller_sra9G9OwM1DMd. Thanks for checking in about this issue.
Are all of the items you are writing about under one pound? Do you have any ASINs that previously generated USPS labels but recently only UPS? Can you share a Case ID so I can investigate further?

@KJ_Amazon,
Same issue here . We found this thread by searching to see if anyone else had this problem. We do not have a case ID, nor will we be opening a case.
Item weight in the listings are less than 1 lb (they are under 4 oz).
Same ASINs, Amazon generated USPS return labels for, now they are all UPS.
The only thing that changed on OUR side is that we used Veeqo for the Amazon Buy Shipping label. Other than that, no changes in the listings or otherwise from us.
We did get a couple customer complaints (buyer-fault return reasons) and directed them to Amazon Customer Service. It looks like there is enough detail and inquiries in this thread to see if you can please review to see why Amazon return labels are now through UPS when they were previously USPS?

We are being charged $42-$45 for some return labels (maybe 1/10) that we can ourself generate for $14. Something is definitely not working properly on Amazon but so far no one has been able to resolve anything. All the products have the same box size and weight info uploaded. We even made a forum post with order numbers and got nowhere so I highly doubt anything will be resolved with this post either.
Here is a brand new return that just came in 113-3988415-8645850. $42.97 charge for a return label that we can get under our own account for $15.
Here is another example 114-6552718-0339454
$45.87 return label cost.
Amazon keeps pushing its sellers to offer free returns or their ASINS won't be displayed earlier in the search results while the system is charging you 3X the return label price.

Hello @Seller_uuiUJi7rf0fpY @Seller_eJgJ4Pj657ua0 and all other sellers asking about recent changes to how prepaid return shipping labels are issued for smaller items.
I have been sharing seller comments and concerns about this with our partner teams. Our partner teams are reviewing these discussions, and will have updates for me early next week.
Please keep an eye on this thread and related threads including:

Happened to a return on 2-2. Item is 4x4 inches and a few ounces. Returned in a small envelope via UPS for $14. Won a safeT claim for buyer claiming wrong reason but otherwise this would be crazy losing $18+ on a $14 item. Is amazon trying to push us to make refunds without returns?
And $14 is excessive as I can ship 8x4x4 1lb UPS for $8 or less.

as stated in my initial post, the actual item weight in SC is .10 lbs. thats 1/10 of a pound. The package arrived today and i weighed it. it was 2.6oz. The label said 55lbs. I am not sure how this happened, but Amazon promptly debited my account for the full amount. For picture and order details see case ID 14942359571
Hello @Seller_PA6DFCCHNJo8v. If the incorrect weight was used to generate a prepaid return label, the next step is to wait two weeks to monitor if the carrier issues an adjustment.
If no carrier adjustments are issued for the return shipment, check if you are eligible to file a SAFE-T Claim.
How to file a SAFE-T claim: steps and best practices
Finally: If you want to dispute this or any carrier adjustment and you have not linked your own account, that dispute must be done through Amazon. Include the carrier-audited dimensions and specify that you want to escalate your dispute of the weight. Include photos of the product/package with clear measurements, and some earlier orders for the ASIN if they exist.
Please share that Case ID with me so I can monitor and escalate if necessary.
