Can I charge a 50% restocking fee when the customer admits they lie about the return reason?
So I've sold a large item cross-country to a buyer that wishes to return it for free despite not having an actual reason for a free return.
They used the Buyer Comment section to enter the Mental Gymnastic Olympics to describe why they've lied to get a free return.
Am I able to charge a high (50%?) restocking fee on this item?
Thanks

Hello @Seller_Qvkq0XIyYVeNa
Thank you for posting your inquiry to the Forums. A restocking fee is a percentage of the item's price; depending on the type of item and its condition upon return. This does not include shipping costs.
You may charge a 50% restocking fee in the following instances:
- The buyer returns an used item with severe damage
- The buyer returns a book within the return window with obvious signs of use that was not caused by Amazon or the seller
- The buyer returns a CD, DVD, VHS tape, cassette tape, or vinyl record within the return window that has been opened (taken out of the plastic wrap).
- The buyer changes their mind* about a purchase and returns a non-media item within the return window. But the seller receives the item with damage, missing parts, not in original condition, or that have obvious signs of use for reasons not due to Amazon or seller error.
This help page provides additional guidelines for charging restocking fees.
Please note that if you described and listed the item accurately but the buyer just no longer wants it or made an ordering mistake (for example, selected the wrong size or color), you may refund the item price but not refund the shipping cost. This help page provides more detail on refunds for your reference.
