Amazon does not refund shipping on a return
I price my books as price +$3.99. Customer returned a book with the reason "no longer needed"
So customer pays for return shipping plus he has to pay the shipping that I originally paid to ship to him, right?
But I am only seeing return shipping by the customer but not the original shipping out the customer. So I file a SAFE-T claim.
Is my assumption correct?

If you charged the buyer shipping (ie. not Free Shipping), then RFS will refund the outbound shipping that the buyer paid, and you have to file a SAFE-T claim to get it back. Usually I can get the outbound shipping reimbursed to me with a SAFE-T claim On rare occasion, they have refused. Amazon has no business refunding outbound shipping back to the buyer, especially on a buyer faulted return, but they do it anyway.

Amazon figured out the way to shaft the seller is to fool their buyers with 'Free Shipping' - So when you list your item buyers are adverse to paying for shipping. So now you post without shipping as a line item for them to pay for and you don't get to claw back shipping - why? B/C you did not sell it where the buyer is paying a separate line item 'Shipping'

It's been inconsistent but I'd say 80% of the time they refund only 1 direction and 15% of the time, both directions. I've never had it refused in both directions.

What kind of profit are you hoping to make by pricing books for less than it costs to mail them by media? The time it takes to wrap and ship, and you are selling them for $3.99?

Yes you will need to waste your valuble time dealing with Safe-T claims which you should get your shipping back but not always as we have had a couple dozen same case get denied with Safe-T repeating that is is not covered. Total BS that Amazon created this mess.

Lately, some of my supposed buyer faulted returns are also getting their return label refunded too. Not worth screwing around with a safety claim, but it's really annoying. With the increase in media mail rates, I figure I now lose about $12 on a return.
