FBM Shipping

Hello

I delivered my first FBM order using Canada Post, and I can tell you it cost me $21 for a small envelope measuring 35x25x2.5cm, weighing 275g. How am I supposed to make money with this, even with the business discount? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

If the item is cheap enough to qualify for the VTR exemption (under $30) you send it as a Standard Mail Envelope and pay under $5. This option gets you no tracking and no insurance. If it is that small, but you desire tracking, use an envelope with the $5 letter postage and pay $9.95 extra to register it. Other than that, often the Prepaid Xpress envelopes are a couple bucks cheaper if the address is "regional" to you. Next up is the Extra Small Flat Rate box, costing $16.99 plus tax if you have items that are not quite so large.

Hope some of these will help.

Try third party shipping companies; those big ones, you need to sign a contract with them to get a reasonable rate; however, that requires volume. you can try the below ones instead

1. Stallion Express 2. Clickship 3. Chitchats

Try netparcel.com

In most cases, it is much cheaper than Canada Post, even with a commercial account.

Only used carriers like Purolator, UPS, Fedex as you can easily put in the tracking number on Seller Central. I think a few other carriers are also integrated, maybe someone will reply to this with updates.

Was your item sent to a remote area?

You also have the option of purchasing an "Extra-small" flat rate box from Canada Post (over the counter), which costs 16.99 + Tax = $19.20. Tracking and Insurance are included.

Have you tried the "Over Sized" letter option.. If your envelope is less than 3/4 of an inch thick you can send it oversized letter and depending on weight, between $3.60 - $5.. maybe a touch more depending on weight. but no tracking.. works well for a lot of items

I think you have to have quite a big volume for FBM to be worth it, we are using Shipstation to compare pricing with diferent carriers like Fedex, Purolator, Canada Post and GLS.

But again to get good prices from these carriers you have to have quite big numbers.
