Custom B2B Quotes - Books (High Fees Lead to Net Loss)
Just a heads up that if you are using the Custom B2B Quote feature to offer bulk quotes to business customers purchasing books, the "Estimated Custom Quotes referral fees" shown on the quote page are incorrect (as of 5/22/24). The fees on this page are 15% of the total offer but Amazon is not including the $1.80 per item closing fee. This drastically increases the total fees.
We had offered quotes for approximately 4 weeks before seeing our month-end business report and realizing we were selling everything at a loss. We are currently at over $7,000 in losses for these quotes because of the difference in stated fees vs. actual fees.
We discussed this with customer support and they acknowledged that the quote page had an error. We are now hoping they resolve our loss by issuing a credit.
As far as the B2B Quote feature, the math does not work. We cannot offer a better price for bulk purchases because the fees are so high that we would need to sell the books above retail price. There is no way a bookseller can offer a price better than what is standard because a bookseller is a wholesaler, not a manufacturer, and we all have to buy our books from publishers. The cost to buy the book plus the fees makes the total cost higher than the standard pricing offered. Amazon needs to rethink their math on this feature.
