Return Reason: Didn't approve purchase
How is this even an option?
Didn't approve purchase? My products cost like $50-$70 to ship each box.
Buyer claims "Did not approve purchase"
So I just magically, somehow decided to ship a random package to someone, and Amazon paid me for it??
How am I expected to eat this shipping?

Charge a restocking fee
Dominic_Amazon
Hi @Seller_R6O1Fg5v56ZkC,
Dominic from Amazon here, would like to weigh in. @Seller_7LrAV0m5llaI7 is correct you can charge a restocking fee if you would like.
Best,
Dominic

@Dominic_Amazon Will Amazon back us when we do charge a restocking fee?
If it is clearly not the seller's fault, and the misguided buyer leaves bad feedback, will Amazon remove it?

Amazon's return policy is a terrible policy that is super unfair to Amazon vendors not to mention insulting to our intelligence. So you didn't approve the purchase, who did, your dog? Like Dominic Amazon and JPart2 says charge a restocking fee.

YOU decided to sell on Amazon, knowing the policies they have in place. Eat it as cost of doing business, right it off on your taxes. Make customers happy. Sell more.

I deal with this constantly. The truth is you will end up eating the shipping and sometimes the negative feedback even though you did nothing wrong.
Amazon should have a mandatory penalty for buyers who do this but they don't. They just stick it to the sellers. Its baked into the system.
Usually the buyer will also lie and instead of "did not approve purchase" they will go with something like..... "item not as described" "item not received" "item defective" etc. A growing number of people these days lack basic morality.
Can't help but suspect these are scams to get free product. The buyer knows its often not worth your time to go through all the hassle of fighting the process. Often the return shipping, processing, paperwork is not even worth trying to get the item(s) back on a $50 purchase.
Seller_oDXVaydIpi3Hi
You'll not only eat shipping. You'll pay for the shipping back, and amazon fees for the return. Then you'll likely get it back damaged and in a box 5 times larger so you'll get a shipping adjustment charge and loss of product, too. Sure...you can charge a restocking fee, but then they can do an AZ claim and give you a bad review hammering your metrics on both sides, and you'll run the chance of losing it all in a claim. Or you can wait and do a SAFET claim and get pennies on the dollar back from all of it.
It comes down to a gamble and which way you want to lose.
Seller_oDXVaydIpi3Hi
No. They do not back you really in anything.

Since you advise this, it appears that you and I are assuming the OP is FBM and not FBA.
I am assuming that something that costs $50.00 to ship is valued at more than $100.00, so Amazon shouldn't Refund at First Scan (RFS) when Returned.
Which is a Good Thing!
Unfortunately, in Amazon U.S.A. the Seller is no longer allowed to deduct ANY Restocking Fees of any kind, if the Return is received in the same condition as originally shipped.
I am surprised that @Dominic_Amazondid not mention this.
HOWEVER....
If the Return is received in the same Condition as originally shipped, the Seller can withhold Refunding the Outgoing Postage amount on the original invoice (not the true postage amount you actually paid to ship the package).
This is a great reason to make sure you are using a shipping template for each ASIN you offer that comes close to the actual true shipping cost.
So, if you offer FREE Shipping, or simply roll the extra postage costs into the price of the item so as to offer Low Shipping prices,, now is when you will feel the bite. Especially on Large, Heavy and expensive products.
I understand that Amazon Canada still allows for Restocking Fees like we used to be able to do in the U.S.A.
Good Luck!

With this logic, you'll eventually make so many customers happy that it puts you out of business.
