Cosmetic Wrongfully identified as a health product – Requesting Advice on Reinstatement for Cosmetic Product
I’m facing an issue with my pimple patch product on Amazon, which was flagged for a "Restricted Product Policy Violation." Amazon categorized it incorrectly as a health product, claiming it needs a DIN/NPN number.
My pimple patches are purely cosmetic; they don’t treat or cure acne but simply improve the appearance of pimples. I’ve submitted a Cosmetic Notification Form (CNF) to Health Canada, and I have both:
- The cosmetic number
- The case number
~ Confirming its classification as a cosmetic.
Additionally, I’ve ensured the labeling does not make any claims about treating or curing acne, focusing instead on improving the look of pimples, in compliance with Health Canada regulations.
I’ve updated the product detail page to eliminate any misleading language, yet Amazon continues to insist on a DIN/NPN number, which doesn’t apply to cosmetics.
Has anyone else experienced a similar misclassification issue? I’ve opened multiple cases with Amazon support, but their responses remain generic, still requesting the DIN/NPN. Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @Seller_KYhBb8zbhyL9u,
I see you have questions and concerns about a violation on your account. Could you please provide the case ID, the ASIN, or performance notification? With a bit more information I could better assist with the investigation of this issue.
As you did mention Restricted Product and since this is in Canada, and Amazon is requesting a "DIN/NPN number," I have a guide that may help:
This article applies to selling in: Canada - Drugs, drug paraphernalia and natural health products and within this document, please review : Cosmetics - that states in part - Skin care products that claim to prevent, heal, stop or treat acne; and - these products are restricted without the requested DIN/NPN.
If you need additional assistance, provide the requested documentation specific to your account.
I look forward to your response. Thank you for reaching out on the forums.
