Returns, LPN label questions

I have a few questions about the LPN labels applied to FBA returns that are shipped back to me:

  1. When/where are the LPN labels applied to the returned product?
  2. Do items that are "returned to inventory" also have the LPN label on them? (as a shopper, I've never received a product with an LPN label on it)
  3. Most of the time my products that are returned to me are unused and in perfectly resellable condition - except they have the LPN label slapped on them which means I can't resell them as new. Why are these labels applied directly to the product rather than bagged first?

As usual, I can't find a category or tag that applies to this situation.

Hi @Seller_KORq6325Mfo7c

Below is the information I found in the help pages.

LPN stands for License Plate Number. It is a unique identifier assigned to each pallet, carton or tote when goods arrive at a warehouse or distribution center. Some key points about LPN numbers:

  • LPNs help track inventory and shipments as they move through the supply chain.
  • They allow warehouses to efficiently identify, locate, and process inventory.
  • LPNs are scanned at various points - when receiving, putaway, picking, packing, shipping etc. This generates data on the item's movement.
  • The LPN stays with the goods as long as they are in that packaging. It may be replaced if repackaged.

So in summary, LPN or License Plate Number is a unique ID assigned to inventory units to track their movement and status in the supply chain. I found the following help page that may help add more to the discussion. If you review the section titled 'Field Definitions' you will see that the LPN value is available through that report.

I hope this helps.

I suspect the LPN label is applied upon return to FBA. And yes, I've purchased items off Amazon that have an LPN label on it. Of course, most of the time it's because I bought a "used" item (open package), so I expected it.
