Rediculous Shipping Prices on DVD/Blu-Ray's?

Recently I did a test run of selling some new DVD’s and Blu-Ray’s only to find out that shipping was going to ream me to the point that it would restrict any chance of profit. Despite using a low-profile bubble mailer, Canada Post said the discounted letter mail fee wasn’t an option due to not sliding through the mail slot with ease. It would fit with some, um,
“encouragement” but apparently that’s a no-go.

I was left to pay around $13 per DVD on shipping on their lowest parcel rate which is ridiculous considering both regarding profit margins, and the shipping fee allotment that Amazon grants.

is there any way to reduce the shipping costs on these type of items? Either through Canada Post or another shipping method?

Canada Post will usually be the lowest cost option for DVDs.

You might want to check into another option for mailing sleeves for those that won’t fit.

There should be cardboard or plastic sleeves that will work.

Usually, the thicker DVDs have a soft plastic case that is pretty durable that won’t need to bubblewrap mailer.

For some (multiple disk units), you might just need to price the additional shipping cost into the price.

Men in the USA you can ship for a little as $2.77 with a tracking, In Canada is around $19.97.

You will have to get a third party shipper as the Venture on Card by Canada post will not cut it.(Check out Shipvista.com) It works for us

@East_by_West_inc did you ever figure this out?

I am starting off and just did the exact same thing, posted a dvd, to also realize exactly what you were asking, the $14 for shipping. I posted this question on a facebook forum earlier today and now came here to see if I could find answers. Any insight or help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Never throw out the Slip Cover. It is an important of the DVD/BluRay. Standard DVDs and BluRays will slip throw the tool they use. For lettermail I just buy stamps and throw in the mail.

I go to Dollarama and get their padded envelopes. Unless it is a ‘box set’ dvd or blu-ray the hold the product quite nicely and slide through the slot with ease. Most I pay is for the 100-200 gram rate for first class postage.

You can also get the white padded envelopes at Staples… they too will fit through the slot without a problem, again, unless it is a box set (such as Season One of some TV series).

Uline offers DVD (cardboard) mailer boxes. They fit through the Canada post slot of doom, and can go oversize lettermail. I use them quite often.

I use tracked packet for DVD set and I include the shipping cost into my price (around +10$). For regular DVD and CD cases, I use regular mail. The actual shipping cost is a bit less then the 3.49$ charged to client so I save the difference for eventual mail lost and not received items.
