shipment pricing fbm is much higher than i thought

I sold my first book and first of all didn't figure out how to print my labels so I went to canada poste to ship it and I figured it would cost around 4-5 bucks to ship but to my surprise it cost me $20.90 to send it. The book price was 14$.

At that price I will not do this for long so can anyone help me on this.

It was 650 mg so was considered a parcel and was 10.5" x 15" x 1/2"

Thank you for your info.

Best to sign up for a Canada Post small business account to save money. However, you'll never find any price close to around 4-5 bucks to ship a book in Canada.

You could have put it in one of the Canada Post flat rate boxes for $16.99 as well as it's a flat rate up to 5kg

You'll find it can be even worse. I just mailed on to a rural address in Quebec. Cost me $33. Mind you, that was with insurance and obtaining a signature ($4 extra).

If they are cheaper books, I am loving those flat rate boxes mentioned by @Seller_7LrAV0m5llaI7. If under 500 grams and super thin (think pamphlet) is the only time you can get away with under $6 for shipping. But that cheaper letter size also gets you no tracking.

If you are selling on the Canadian platform, there is no buying your postage from Amazon, that is only in the USA, even though Amazon make it look like an option when you fill an order.

Best of luck to you. Amazon is not as easy as TikTok makes it look.

Would it been better to send it by ups or purolater?

Yup we are pooched here in Canada for shipping. Do not forget the $4 fuel surcharge that gets tacked on after you click to check out. I do not understand how can shipping from Usa to my address is so cheap using usps but the same shipment back using canada post is 3 to 4 times higher. Canadians simply cannot compete with US sellers selling from Us into Canada, especially when shipping from us into Canada is cheaper than shipping the same item across town.

We're only a couple weeks into amazon selling, originally wanted to go the FBM route but quickly realized how much more we'd be paying in shipping if we did it on our own. Amazon must get a pretty good discount through UPS, because we were quoted hundreds more from UPS through our personal business account (oversized shipping) for the same parcel. Ended up switching to FBA, which does include many fee's but a lot less headache. So far I'm liking it.

I had the same problem then I found Stallion Express. Better pricing than Canada Post. You should check them out.
