Setting up Canada account

I don't understand why I can't get any help with the Help support. I've set up an Amazon.CA and I can't finish because it shows an ERROR on Tax Information. Seller Support is requesting IRS information but I don't have a US company, it is only Canada - the tax information has been fulfilled already. I have been talking to them for over 10 days and they keep insisting on the same - you need to give tax information to the IRS.

For some reason, I am enrolled in the 3 markets - Canada, US and Mexico but only Canada is active. They say that is mandatory to be on the 3 markets but now I can't sync to my ecommerce because it shows a TAX INFO ERROR related to the US market.

Nobody, I mean, nobody is being able to help. Either not willing or don't want or do not want to work. Anyone with ideas on how to solve this?

The North America Unified account is for all three countries, for $39.99 US a month if you have a Professional Account. If you are having trouble getting started you might want to go into Settings and downgrade your account to Individual so that you won't be paying each month while you figure it out.

There is a from to fill out for Amazon that basically says you don't have to pay the IRS, but I don't know how you get to it anymore. Maybe another seller can steer you to it. I just wanted to warn you of the $39.99 you're paying for a Professional Account. Many new sellers don't realize this until it keeps happening. Good luck to you.

Hello @Seller_W781YJmk1RDFo

Christine here from Amazon Forums.

I understand your frustration with the tax information situation, and I'd be happy to help clarify things! 🌟

When you sign up for Amazon.ca, you're actually enrolling in the North American Unified Account, which includes Canada 🇨🇦, US 🇺🇸, and Mexico 🇲🇽. This is indeed mandatory, even if you only plan to sell in Canada.

Here's what you need to do to resolve the tax error:

📝 Even as a Canadian business, you'll need to complete Form W-8BEN (for individuals) or W-8BEN-E (for entities). This is NOT because you're paying US taxes, but because Amazon needs to verify you're a non-US seller.

✅ Log into Seller Central

🔍 Go to Settings > Account Info > Tax Information

📋 Complete the tax interview, selecting "non-US entity" where applicable

The good news is you don't need a US tax number! The W-8BEN form actually helps you claim exemption from US tax requirements.

Pro tip! 💡 Make sure you're entering your Canadian Business Number (BN) in the Canadian tax section and completing the W-8BEN form separately for the US section.

If you're still experiencing issues, please:

  • Take screenshots of the specific error
  • Open a new case with Seller Support
  • Specifically mention you're a Canadian-only seller, completing a W-8BEN form

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any clarification! 🤗

Christine here.

As an Amazon seller based in Canada, completing this form is unfortunately a mandatory requirement, even if you are only selling on the Canadian marketplace.
