Customer asking for a GST number and a Business Legal name for $40 product
Hi All,
Got an order in today, Customer purchased a $40 product and asked for a GST number and business legal name. My Question is it legit to ask business GST and Legal name as a customer on Amazon - Where in the sale was on Amazon
Order placed in Quebec
Order shipped and sold in Canada…
Please let me know if this request is normal?
Thanks!

It’s not a normal request and the customer is Amazon’s customer, so you should not give any of that information. Most retailers do have their GST/HST number on their receipts, but you are not the retailer, you are the 3rd party merchant supplying Amazon’s customer. If the customer wants the info to use as a tax or ITC credit, advise them to print the invoice from their order information on their Amazon account. Those two pieces of information could get your Amazon account hacked.

If you are GST/HST registrant then you legally have to provide this information on the invoice.

Do you have a HST/GST number? If not, you cannot charge taxes…
