Merchant Shipping - Canada Post or UPS? which is cheaper?

Hi all,

I’m shipping a box 5" X 4" X3.5" (13cmX10cmX9cm) box with weigh of 0.5 LB. I checked online with Canada post and in Purolator and in UPS, The cost is minimum $12. Shipping from Waterloo, ON to Vancouver, BC. But client paid only $6.98. Is there any cheaper shipping method available?

Thanks in advance.

I find UPS is cheaper when done online, and dropping off the package at UPS.

Most importantly UPS is by far quicker.

Thank you.

Hope still more than $6.99 ( which, Amazon set within Canada and buyer paid). I’ll check UPS online. This is the first time I’m doing FBM.

The product is small, max 3"X2" X 1". If I pack inside small padded envelope, will it reduce my shipping cost when compared with box?

Thanks again to all.

I’m about 80% UPS and 10% Purolator and 10% Canada Post. Located in Vancouver, BC, UPS blows Canada Post out of the water for shipping across the country 80% of the time unless it’s a really rural address. Usually about 8$ all in locally, 11-12$ BC / Alberta via UPS and $14-$15 to Ontario/Quebec and $20 for the east coast. Unless it’s rural.

Way faster than Canada post too. I usually just include the price of shipping in the cost of the item, and offer free shipping.

I have a couple of shipping sights I use, they show most of the carriers. And sometimes, have good discounts. Also, you can sign up for small business account with Canada Post, give a small discount on shipping.
Try these sites too:

netparcel

I sell books. FBM.
First of all as someone has already said you can change your shipping prices on Amazon. So check into that.
As someone else said Canada Post, which is what I use offers discount on shipping the more you use them.
Here is the break down.

  • Savings level 1 — You could save up to 45% when you spend up to $2,499 each year.

  • Savings level 2 — You could save up to 50% when you spend between $2,500 and $4,999 each year.

  • Savings level 3 — You could save up to 52% when you spend between $5,000 and $7,499 each year.

  • Savings level 4 — You could save up to 57% when you spend at least $7,500 each year.

The key phrase is “up to.”
I’ve been able to ship a 11X8X4 box to Italy for $18.00 with tracking weight 0.50 kgs.
Average box same size in Ontario ( where we’re located ) $9.00
Average box same size to BC about $17.00.
Average box same size to the US with tracking $17.00 to $19.00. Without tracking $11.00.
I compared to Chit Chats and I saved $18 for every six boxes.
Problem is I have to drive 20 minutes one way to one drop off and 45 minutes to the Hamilton location which charges an extra $1.25 per package.
My local Canada Post Office is a block away.
Thanks. Don

Please check netParcel, stallionexpress, and chitchat shipping companies for Canada. I sent from Canada to USA paperback book for just 2.75 $ and also I used it many times from Ontario to Alberta, Vancouver for shipping and I got great price. They gave you tracking number, confirmation, etc.
