Personal flotation devices (PFDs)

If you list products on our store, you must comply with all federal, provincial, territorial, and local laws and our policies applicable to those products and product listings, including this policy.

Personal flotation devices covered by this policy

Personal flotation devices (PFDs), are garments or devices that provide the person wearing them with a specific amount of buoyancy while in the water. PFDs covered by this policy are:

A lifejacket is a garment or device that, when worn correctly, will maintain the user in a face-up flotation position, without additional action with various levels of performance and is suitable for open waters. Infant devices have head and neck support, and are designed to flip the infant face up in the water.

Buoyancy aids

A buoyancy aid is a garment or device that, when worn correctly, will provide support without significant face up turning ability and therefore may require action by the user to position the face clear of the water.

Special purpose devices

A special purpose device has performance equivalent to a lifejacket or buoyancy aid, but has modifications related to specific applications for use. These modifications may require additional action by the user between putting on the device and providing flotation (for example, wakeboard or kayak vests), or may only be suitable for certain activities or user groups (for example, airplane passengers).

The following product types are not covered by this policy: wearable swimming aids (for example, water wings), buoyancy control devices and buoyancy compensators (for example, equipment used by scuba divers), one-piece survival suits (for example, an immersion suit), wet suits, and dry suits.
