Price per Unit (PPU) information is used by customers to compare and evaluate products during their shopping journey. To deliver a more complete, consistent and accurate PPU experience, Amazon will be implementing the following data requirements.
Starting on September 1, 2021, all new listings for products that are sold within the consumables product types must include a unit_count attribute, which was previously optional, and is a number value (for example, “5”). You must also specify the unit_count_type (for example, millilitre, count, or gram).
The unit count type will be restricted to the following units:
Accepted unit count type |
---|
gram |
metre |
millilitre |
square metre |
count |
Data submissions that do not include unit_count submissions won’t be accepted. The scope of this change includes any product-level data submissions, whether through Excel templates, Seller Central or XSD feeds. Existing ASINs without unit_count information or with incorrect values in the unit_count_type attribute will require this information when the listings are updated. Any updates made to existing ASINs that do not include the unit_count information will be rejected.
The change will be applicable to all product types within the following larger consumables product types:
Product type |
---|
BEAUTY |
GROCERY |
HEALTH_PERSONAL_CARE |
FOOD |
BEVERAGE |
CLEANING_PRODUCT |
PAPER_PRODUCT |

PPU helps customers compare prices among products. A few examples are provided below:
To display PPU, it is important that the unit_count attribute is correctly filled in. Unit count includes a value (for example, “5”) and a unit_count_type (for example, millilitre, count, gram). Thereafter, an automated system decides whether PPU should be displayed or not. For example, if the product is a "Car_seat", the system does not display PPU. However, if the product is "Coffee", the system does display PPU. We are constantly reviewing these rules based on customer feedback.

All products sold within the larger consumables product types need to have unit_count and unit_count_type filled in. There are automated rules that decide whether a product needs to show PPU or not, as mentioned in How does PPU get displayed?
We recommend that you use the following default values only if you are really sure that the products do not require PPU:

unit_count: 1 |
unit_count_type: count |
