We would like to thank you for once again putting your trust in Amazon to power your business. Despite the ongoing challenges everyone has faced with COVID, supply chain bottlenecks, and a very challenging labour market, sellers have continued to thrive. Canada sellers sold over 110 million products in 2021 in Amazon stores alone, and we welcomed more than 5,000 new third-party sellers to our Canada store, up 14% over the previous year. All while the number of Canada sellers who surpassed $1 million in annual sales grew by nearly 40%.
We are proud to have supported you during this time with significant investments in our fulfilment and delivery network, and through powerful new tools and services to help you grow your business. Since the start of the pandemic, we’ve increasedfulfilment capacity in Canada by over 60%, spent over $15 billion globally across our fulfilment network to help keep employees safe, and hired more than 15,000 people in Canada. That includes opening 27 new fulfilment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations across Canada.
Throughout the pandemic we have worked to support you—postponing and keeping fee changes low and absorbing hundreds of millions of dollars in increased costs on your behalf—while making significant and necessary investments in people, technology, transportation, and infrastructure. In 2022, we expected a return to normalcy as COVID-19 restrictions around the world eased, and planned to adjust our FBA fulfilment and storage fees to reflect our ongoing operating costs going forward. However, as you’ve seen widely reported in the press and have likely experienced yourselves, fuel and inflation costs have presented further challenges. As a result, on June 30, 2022, we will adjust FBA fulfilment fees to partially offset the higher permanent operating costs that we face going forward, make our annual update to referral fees, and employ a fuel and inflation surcharge for the first time—a mechanism broadly used across supply chain providers. We are unable to predict how long this surcharge will be necessary, and will provide you with advance notice of any changes.
We know that changing fees affects your business. Our teams are working every day to ensure that FBA remains a great value for the premium fulfilment and delivery service it provides. This fee change, and prior fee changes since the pandemic, continues to be lower than other logistics service providers. Accounting for these changes, our fees remain 40% more competitive on average than if sellers were to fulfill orders on their own, providing sellers using FBA with premium expedited fulfilment and delivery speed for lower than standard service prices.
Review the fee change pages below for more information. These changes will take effect June 30, 2022, except where otherwise noted.
