Category policies and requirements

Amazon limits the addition of new sellers in the Jewellery category to ensure that customers can buy with confidence from all sellers on Amazon.

The requirements for selling in the Jewellery category reflect buyer concerns for product quality, product branding, and consumer safety. Adherence to import and export restrictions is also important to ensuring that buyers can purchase authentic, high-quality Jewellery products.

Sellers must meet the requirements listed below to sell products in the Jewellery category. Read this list of requirements and consult our Help pages if you have questions about specific policies. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee that Amazon will approve sellers to sell in Jewellery. Amazon reserves the right to review the quality of each seller's products and listings, including checking that those products and listing data meet all applicable requirements. Note that Amazon may remove your selling privileges for failing to meet these requirements.

General requirements

• All products must meet Jewellery Quality Assurance Standards
• All items must be properly setup according to Amazon's Categorization of Fine vs. Fashion Jewellery guidelines.
• All unbranded Jewellery products must be listed on separate seller-created detail pages. Except for branded designer jewellery and jewellery accessories that include manufacturer UPC codes, sellers may not match against existing selection in the jewellery category.
• Jewellery products from major brands must be listed using the manufacturer's UPC code. Learn more about Adding UPCs, EANs, and ISBNs for Your Products.
• Listing of items priced over CDN $125K is not allowed in the jewellery category.
• All sellers who apply to sell Fine Jewellery must pay a non-refundable application fee. No fee is required to apply to sell Fashion Jewellery. See the Fine Jewellery Terms and Conditions for more information.

Seller requirements

If you do not have a Professional selling plan, you must agree to upgrade to a Professional selling plan before your application is approved.

Sellers must meet these performance criteria to be eligible to apply to sell in the Jewellery category:

• Order-Defect Rate of 1% or less
• Cancellation Rate of 2.5% or less
• Late Shipment Rate of 4% or less

View your current metrics in the Performance section of your seller account under Account Health.

If your account does not meet the minimum criteria, your application will be rejected. Take corrective action and ensure your performance metrics meet the minimum criteria before completing the application.

Product quality requirements

• All products must be new. We do not allow any used products.
• All products must be authentic. We do not allow counterfeit, replica, or knock-off products.
• Sellers must employ quality control and inspection procedures. All products must be properly stamped with the country of origin and metal type.
• All products must meet North American product safety standards. (For more information, see our Consumer Product Safety Commission Guidelines Help page.)
• All jewellery products must carry a warranty. Sellers must disclose the warranty type for each product they list, indicating whether it is a manufacturer's warranty or their own warranty. We advise that sellers provide a photo of the warranty certificate on the site. They can also add it to their storefront pages by going to their seller account and clicking on Settings.

Product listing requirements

Item data requirements

Product listing data for all Jewellery items must meet Jewellery-specific standards.

• Sellers must follow the data requirements listed in the various tabs of the Jewellery Inventory Template published in Seller Central. These requirements are enforced systematically. Any items not meeting these standards will not be accepted.
• For the purposes of product classification, item specifications, and quality assurance, we distinguish between fine and fashion jewellery based on several criteria. These criteria include, but are not limited to, metal type, gem type, and pearl type. Learn more about Categorization of Fine vs. Fashion Jewellery Materials.
• Data requirements vary by product silhouette and materials. For example, we include different specifications for gold and diamond earrings than we do for a crystal and steel ring. Our data requirements reflect these differences.
  • When selling products with diamonds, sellers must disclose cut, colour, clarity, carat weight, stone shape, setting type, stone treatment method, stone creation method, and some product-specific information (for example dimensions and ring sizes).
  • When selling fine gemstones, sellers must provide total gem weight, stone shape, setting type, stone treatment method, stone creation method, and some product-specific information (for example dimensions and ring sizes).
  • When selling fine pearl items, sellers must disclose pearl type, pearl minimum colour, pearl shape, pearl lustre, pearl uniformity, pearl blemishes, size per pearl, number of pearls, setting type, and some product-specific information (for example dimensions and ring sizes). In addition, pearls must be disclosed as being cultured, simulated, seed, or natural pearls.

Next step: request approval

If you would like to apply to sell Jewellery on Amazon and if you meet the requirements listed above in the Seller minimum requirements section, click the Request approval button below. If you plan to sell any items with fine materials, indicate this in the request and your application will be processed accordingly.

All sellers who apply to sell Fine Jewellery must pay a non-refundable application fee. No fee is required to apply to sell Fashion Jewellery. See the Fine Jewellery Terms and Conditions for more information.

Fashion Jewellery: Request approval

Fine Jewellery: Only approved sellers can sell Fine Jewellery on Amazon. To request approval, do the following:

1. Log in to your seller account.
2. Under Inventory > click Add a Product.
3. Search an existing Fine Jewellery item and click Request approval.
4. Complete the application and submit.

Once you receive approval to sell Fine Jewellery, you will be able to create detail pages for each of your items.

If sellers previously approved to sell in the Jewellery category but not approved to sell items made from fine jewellery materials, wish to add selection made from precious fine materials, must re-apply and indicate this in the request for approval form. • All products must be sold as listed and as characterized in the descriptions, images, and specifications shown on the detail page.
• All products must meet Amazon's Jewellery Quality Assurance Standards.
• All items must be properly set up according to Amazon's Categorization of Fine vs. Fashion Jewellery guidelines.
• All products must be authentic. We do not allow counterfeit, replica or knock-off products. Nor do we permit trademark violations. We respect the intellectual property of others and require that sellers posting on our site do the same. If you believe that an item offered on our site violates your intellectual property rights, submit your complaint using this online form. We encourage sellers with trademarks for their brands to apply for ownership of those brands in the Amazon Brand Registry. Brand Registry provides access to special tools for reporting intellectual property violations.
• Listing of items priced over $175,000 is not allowed in the Jewellery category.

• Sellers without a Professional selling plan must upgrade to a Professional selling plan once their application is approved, and must maintain this plan while offering jewellery products on Amazon.
• Sellers applying to list Fine Jewellery must be existing Amazon sellers. They must have at least 12 months of prior selling experience on Amazon, with annual revenue of at least $50,000 on Amazon.
• Sellers applying to list Fine Jewellery must have an existing business with at least one brick-and-mortar store and annual revenue of at least $50,000.

• Sellers must meet these performance criteria to be eligible to apply to sell in the Jewellery category:

  • Order-Defect Rate of 1% or less
  • Cancellation Rate of 2.5% or less
  • Late Shipment Rate of 4% or less

• All products must be new. No used products are allowed in the Jewellery category. We do not allow the sale of pre-owned vintage or antique jewellery.
• All products must meet Amazon's Jewellery Quality Assurance Standards. Our materials specifications follow Federal Trading Commission (FTC) guidelines for the jewellery industry. Sellers must ensure all items comply with both sets of standards .
• Sellers must employ quality control and inspection procedures.

• Sellers must follow Amazon listing standards for any product sold on Amazon.
  • Sellers must classify their products appropriately and accurately, in accordance with Seller Central listing guidelines.
  • Sellers must submit product titles, bullet points, and product descriptions that are clearly written and that help the customer understand the product.
  • Sellers must read and understand Amazon's Jewellery Quality Assurance Standards, the Precious Metals Marketing Act for advertising jewelry, and the Tips for Listing Fine Jewellery. Furthermore, sellers must list their items in accordance with this guidance.
• Jewellery listings must comply with the Jewellery Style Guide.
• Sellers may not list against existing jewellery items unless it is from one of the Major Jewellery Brands. Sellers must create a new listing for each jewellery product they sell; matching products to existing ASINs or item detail pages created by other sellers is not allowed. Amazon may merge identical products at our discretion.
• Jewellery products from major jewellery brands must be listed using the manufacturer's official brand name and manufacturer-issued UPC. Use of brand name variants is not allowed. UPCs are required for items from certain Major Jewellery Brands, and are recommended for other branded merchandise. Sellers of branded merchandise without a valid manufacturer's UPC should request UPCs from the brand owner/manufacturer. Learn more about Adding UPCs, EANs, and ISBNs for Your Products.
  • Sellers who produce their own branded merchandise can apply for the Amazon Brand Registry.
• Trademarked brand names should never be used in any product data fields (including Brand Name, Title, Bullets, Product Description, Keywords, or Search Terms) unless the item is actually from that brand. Any listing using a brand name inappropriately will be suppressed. These are the only exceptions:
  • For products made with branded components (such as Swarovski^TM crystals), you can indicate the brand in the title, bullets, and product description. However, do not include the component's brand in the item's Brand Name attribute, and do not imply that the item is made by this brand.
  • For products compatible with or made to fit a branded item, you can mention that brand in the bullets or product description. For example, "This charm fits Pandora^TM brand bracelets" or "This battery is compatible with Ringly^TM smart jewellery." Do not include compatible brand names in the Title, Brand Name, Search Terms, or other ASIN attributes.
• Items that are generic or that do not have a brand name can be assigned "Unbranded" or "Generic" as the brand name.
• Buyers must be able to complete all aspects of ordering and purchasing a product using only the Amazon website.
• All listing data, content, and images must be suitable for all ages and appropriate for our global community. Listing data and images may not depict or contain nudity (including unclothed mannequins) or pornographic, obscene, or offencive items.

Product listing data for all Jewellery items must meet Jewellery-specific standards.

Only approved sellers can sell Fine Jewellery on Amazon. Sellers who are not approved to sell items made with fine jewellery materials may not offer these items on Amazon.

If you would like to apply to sell Fine Jewellery on Amazon, and you meet the requirements listed above in the Seller Minimum Requirements section, follow the application steps below.

1. Log in to your seller account.
2. Under Inventory click Add a Product.
3. Search an existing Fine Jewellery item and then click Request approval.
4. Complete the application and submit.

Once you receive approval to sell Fine Jewellery, you will be able to create detail pages for each of your items containing fine jewellery materials.

Jewellery on Amazon is a broad category, with items made from a wide variety of materials and prices ranging from pennies to tens of thousands of dollars. Assigning complete and accurate product data to your products is crucial, because this helps to ensure customers can find your items easily.

The browse tree node you select while creating a product listing for Jewellery items is reflected in the product data as the Item Type Keyword. This applies both if you use Add a Product, or while referencing the Browse Tree Guide to complete the Inventory File template. However, the Item Type Keyword alone does not determine where on the site your item will surface. For an item to surface under the correct browse node and refinement nodes, it must also have an accurate title and valid values for the item's materials and other specifications. Our site merchandisers take into consideration all product data, as well as offer price, to determine the best browse nodes and refinements for items to surface in.
