Products that are safe, properly prepared, packaged and labelled, and
are not otherwise prohibited
Lot controlled products with a shelf life greater than 90 days from the time they
are listed on Amazon.ca, which must be removed within 50 days prior to their
expiration date
Examples of prohibited listings
Alcohol products
Prohibited animal products
Products containing ingredients for which a pre-market safety notification is required
but has not been filed
Products that are misbranded
Products that the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has determined present an unreasonable
risk of injury or illness
Products that have passed their "best before" or expiry dates
Lot controlled products with a shelf life of less than 90 days from the time they are
listed on Amazon.ca, which must be removed within 50 days prior to their expiration
date
Products containing shark, dolphin, whale, or porpoise meat
Products that are prohibited from being imported into or are subject to trade / import
restrictions in Canada
Products that are advertised or represented as a treatment, preventative or cure for any
disease, disorder or abnormal physical state listed in the Food and Drugs Act,
Schedule A (e.g. cancer, depression, diabetes, obesity)
Products that contain any poisonous or harmful substance (subject to limited
exemptions)
Products that are unfit for human consumption
Products that consist in whole or in part of any filthy, putrid, disgusting, rotten,
decomposed or diseased animal or vegetable substance
Products that are adulterated
Products that are manufactured, prepared, preserved, packaged or stored under unsanitary
conditions
Products that do not comply with the prescribed standard for that food or beverage,
where applicable, and is likely to be mistaken for that food or beverage (products with
prescribed standards include, but are not limited to, cocoa and chocolate products,
coffee, milk and milk ingredients, fruit juices, meal replacements etc.)
Products that have been the subject of a recall order or prior regulatory action, such
as:
a Canadian Food Inspection Agency "food recall" or "allergy alert"
Products that are not labelled or packaged as required by the Food and Drugs
Act and Regulations
Products that are not properly labelled with core labelling elements
such as: the common name, net quantity, dealer declaration, ingredients
and allergen listing, date markings, nutrition labelling
Products that do not meet bilingual labelling requirements and are not
otherwise excepted from these requirements
Products that are labelled with false and misleading claims
Products containing synthetic food colors that are not permitted in Canada
Products for special dietary use (e.g. formulated liquid diets, meal
replacements, low calorie foods) that do not comply with composition, labelling
and other requirements set out in the Food and Drug Regulations
Products that may be subject to, but do not meet prescribed quality, labelling,
packaging, grading, and health and safety requirements. Such product categories
include:
Fresh fruits and vegetables, including nuts and edible fungi
Processed products, including processed fruit and vegetable
products
Honey and honey products
Maple products
Meat and meat products
Products that are not prepared or processed in a federally registered establishment (if
applicable) or if the product is imported, does not meet applicable import
requirements
Products that are not eligible to be traded interprovincially or internationally
Products that are represented as organic or bear the federal organic agricultural
legend, but are not certified to the prescribed organic standard
Canned products that do not meet the processing, packaging and labelling
requirements contained in the Food and Drug Regulations
Infant formula (human milk substitutes) that do not comply with composition,
labelling and other requirements contained in the Food and Drug
Regulations
Irradiated products that are not irradiated in accordance with the requirements under
the Food and Drug Regulations
Novel foods that do not comply with the assessment and labelling requirements of
Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency
Sports nutrition products that do not meet the compositional and labelling
requirements contained in the Food and Drug Regulations
