Large Volume Shipments

Large volume shipments require additional preparation to ensure that your inventory ships safely and gets to Amazon on schedules. Follow the guidelines below to guarantee that your shipments are correctly packed, labelled, transported, tracked, and received by the appropriate fulfilment centre.

Pallets and Pallet Label Requirements

Important: Failure to comply with FBA product preparation requirements, safety requirements and product restrictions may result in the refusal of inventory at the Amazon fulfilment centre, disposal or return of inventory, blocking of future shipments to the fulfilment centre, or charging for preparation or for non-compliance at the fulfilment centre. Please share these requirements with your carrier or supplier to ensure that they are fully understood and adhered to.

All non-small-parcel shipments must be loaded on pallets. Floor-loaded shipments are only acceptable when identified on the Carrier Appointment Request Portal in the Appointment Information Section by selecting "Load Type--Non-Palletized."

  • The contents of each pallet must all belong to one Shipment ID. You must split different Shipment ID inventory into separate pallets. Failure to do so may result in receiving issues and compensation for missing items may be denied.
  • Each pallet must be labelled with Pallet #____ of _____pallets in the upper right corner of one of the sides of the unitized load so that it is easily visually located.
  • All pallets must contain like items when quantities allow. All pallets of mixed but visually similar product must be labelled "mixed merchandise" or "mixed SKUs" (for example, regular and wide-screen editions of a VHS or DVD that are packaged in similar-looking cartons).
  • All pallets must be stretch-wrapped in clear plastic with a "do not break stretchwrap" or "do not break down" notification to the carrier. Pallets wrapped in black/opaque stretchwrap may be rejected.
  • Wrapped pallets may use labels placed on all four sides—while labels are not required on individual boxes, including a label or the shipment ID will help keep your inventory together and processed into the fulfilment centre.
  • Pallets must be standard Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), 4-way access, 1 x 1.25 metres, #2 quality or better.
  • For case-packed shipments, all primary cartons and any sub-cartons must not contain any scannable barcodes. The Units intended to be sent to your buyers must have only one of the following labels on each unit: either one FNSKU barcode or one UPC, ISBN, or EAN barcode. Failure to cover the barcodes on the primary cartons or sub-cartons may result in your items being received as a single unit and credit may be denied for any missing items.
  • Pallet exchange is not available.
  • Broken or damaged pallets are not acceptable and may be rejected at the merchant's expense.
  • Pallets must not be built more than 1.75 meters high, including the pallet.
  • Total weight of the pallet must not exceed 675 kg.
  • Merchandise must not overhang the pallet edge.
  • All Amazon fulfilment centres accept double-stacked pallets, provided they are safe to load and unload and do not cause product damage during transit. Double-stacked pallets must not exceed 2.5 metres in height, including the pallet.

Bill of Lading

When there are two or more orders shipping from the same pick-up location to the same Amazon fulfilment centre and the required delivery date is the same, consolidate orders into one shipment with one Bill of Lading.

When shipping two or more orders from the same pick-up location to the same Amazon fulfilment centre, and the desired delivery date is the same but the orders are for different seller accounts, you can consolidate the orders in one shipment but you must create a separate Bill of Lading for each order.

  • Bill of Lading must reference all Amazon Reference IDs (POs) contained in the shipment. Amazon Reference IDs are found on the 'View an Existing Shipment' page.
  • Bill of Lading must include carton and pallet quantities per shipment.
  • Whenever possible, the merchant should include the Bill of Lading number on the carton or pallet label. This allows for quick freight verification upon delivery at an Amazon fulfilment centre.
  • If shipping other customers' orders to an Amazon fulfilment centre, a separate Bill of Lading must be created. Do not combine Amazon and other customers' orders in the same shipment.
  • Original Bill of Lading information must be made available to the carrier in order for the carrier to arrange advanced delivery appointment.

Vehicle Requirements

  • The vehicle floor must be able to withstand a pallet jack fully laden.
  • The vehicle floor must be well-maintained, safe, and free from any obstructions and damage such as holes.
  • The vehicle must be water tight, clean, and free of strong odours, especially when delivering food and health-care products.
  • Securing straps must not be allowed to hang freely. Straps, unless actually securing a load(s), must be firmly fixed to the vehicle so they present no danger to staff and ensure accessibility to the goods being unloaded.
  • Very small carton deliveries will be accepted on other forms of transport, such as small parcel carriers.

Schedule Delivery Appointments

  • Only professional carriers are allowed to make delivery appointments to Amazon Fulfilment Centres. All carriers must register with Amazon before appointments will be granted. Carriers must adhere to our delivery requirements and safety standards. Amazon does not allow general public deliveries. For registration and appointments, please direct your carrier to the Carrier Appointment Request Portal to request a time.
  • No loads will be accepted without an advance appointment. If shipment is delayed due to unforeseen weather conditions, Amazon must be notified. Appropriate schedule changes will be made based on availability.
  • The carrier is required to communicate carton and pallet counts before an appointment will be scheduled. Unit counts are requested if available. Floor-loaded trailers should be called out on the carrier freight bill and at appointment request time.
  • Provide the carrier with a complete list of Amazon Reference IDs (POs) and PRO numbers included on or with the Bill of Lading and instruct the carrier that Amazon will require this information when scheduling a dock appointment. To allow carriers to schedule a delivery appointment, provide them with the Amazon fulfilment centre contact information below.

Important: When scheduling appointments, carriers need to explicitly mention that the shipments are for the Fulfilment by Amazon program; otherwise, the fulfilment centre may refuse to grant a delivery appointment.
  • To schedule a delivery appointment, download the FBA Booking Form, fill it out, and e-mail it to your carrier. Most of the shipment information is found in the Summary of the shipping workflow.
  • Have your carrier create an account and log into our Carrier Appointment Request Portal and supply them with a copy of the User Manual for Carriers. The fulfilment centre will respond to your carrier within 24 hours to determine the best delivery time.

Carrier Requirements

Carrier companies selected by sellers to deliver orders to fulfilment centres must adhere to the requirements listed above. It is the seller's responsibility to ensure that the relevant requirements are followed by the selected carrier company. Sellers should be aware that carrier non-compliance of these requirements can lead to rejection of shipments.
